Later Morning Reads for V-J Day (September 2)

Good morning-ish! I know, I know, I’m rolling in kind of late this morning. Apologies all. My tenure and promotion packet is due next week, and I’m letting it take over my life.

It’s V-J (Victory over Japan) Day today. On this day in 1945, the Japanese formally surrendered to Allied Forces on the U.S.S. Missouri to bring an end to World War II several months after the Nazis had surrendered in Europe. It’s also the 108th anniversary of the awarding of the first Eagle Scout medal, which went to Arthur R. Eldred of New York.

Let’s get to the news:

Alice Walker

Flannery O’Connor
