Trump Tariffs Could Cost GA $750 Million, Hurt 1.3 Million Georgians
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce released a state-by-state analysis of the impact on President Trump’s tariffs and the results are bad everywhere in Georgia.
According to the Chamber (a one-pager is below), exports from Georgia to Canada, Mexico, the European Union and China worth worth $749,849,268 could be adversely impacted. The Chamber also says 1,283,800 jobs in Georgia are supported by global trade.
Georgia’s hardest-hit products are:
- Mowers for lawns, parks etc. ($35 million exported annually to Canada)
- Insecticides ($35 million exported annually to Canada)
- Prepared of preserved chicken meat or offal(!) ($32 million exported annually to Canada)
So, in short, the answer is: blame Canada!

Taxing trade, eschewing cooperation, dissing allies. In other words, MAGA. In other news there’s 6 months after taxes were cut on the rich there’s been little increase in the economy and wages are flat, but stock buy-backs and dividends are at record levels. And it only cost a trillion added to the debt!
That would be 1.5 TRILLION. Thats just a rounding error of 500,000,000,000
Canada, Mexico China et al specifically aimed their trade war at Trump states. So magats are going to make everybody else suffer for their nonsense.
Trade wars are good and easy to win!
Who knew being president was so difficult?
And he’s about to meet with Putin. What could go wrong? Maybe he gives away Alaska and the Palins too.
Georgia has a population of around 10.5 million and 531 billion in gross state product per the demographics in Wikipedia.
So
531 Billion – 750 Million or about .15%, that’s peanuts
And with a population of 10.5 million minus underage and retirees consider that maybe 7 million are active working adults so 1.3 million or 18% would be affected by .15% of gross product?
Something doesn’t add up.
The largest exports to Canada which may be are 102 million but the article stated we export 344 million which is targeted. That’s 242 million of which isn’t considered hardest hit?
Consider the source, the US Chamber of Commerce this WEB page is trying to sign you up to an Email campaign opposing the Tariffs. Ok then this is political and maybe not factual.
Two other items to consider Textiles jobs have all mostly been shipped overseas and the same for lawn mowing equipment manufacturing. The article does not discuss the impact of those job losses. I’m sure the people whose jobs were shipped overseas would like an explanation how global trade helped them.
