What’s Next for Doug Collins
The news that Paul Ryan is retiring could be a boon for Doug Collins.
Gainesville’s finest congressman is currently the vice chair of the House Republican Conference.
Before Ryan’s news was official, the second- and third-ranking House Republicans were already allegedly jockeying for the Speakership. And with the increasing specter of a Democratic takeover of congress, the GOP caucus leadership could have even more turnover.
At the very least, Collins seems poised to be the next chair of the Conference–not a bad title indeed. Could he have an even better one in a few months time?

Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference Doug Collins (R-Ga.) released the following statement in response to Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement that he will retire at the end of the 115th Congress:
“In a town that can be both cynical and self-centered, today I witnessed my friend Paul Ryan not only talk about values but live them out. I want to thank the Speaker for his leadership and his friendship. He has led and will continue to lead our majority until the end of this Congress, and I look forward to working with him to complete our agenda. As he leaves the House of Representatives after 20 years, I believe we as a nation are better off for his service.”
No snark. Believe it or not. You don’t think our 4 trill plus budget has a few bucks for entitlements and various social give-aways? The bulk of that budget is social spending in one form or another.
Actually…discretionary spending accounts for only 15% of the budget
If you go through each year for the last 15 years, the “bulk” read:majority (greater than 50%) is defense spending.
But Ryan can run a four hour marathon in three hours.
And he’ll return to full time living near the former GM Janesville Assembly plant he claimed to kinow so well that Barack Obama shut down when he was President in 2007.
If polling continues as is…Cathy McMorris-Rogers could lose her seat. Thats one more he wouldnt have to leapfrog.
