Morning Reads for Tuesday, February 20

Good morning! “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” is 50 years old! Here he is persuading (the initially prickly) Senator Joe Pastore (D-RI) why it is so important to fund educational public television:

The Healey Building has occupied 57 Forsyth Street since 1914.

The ground floor is well worth a walk through for those that appreciate architecture.

Alex Van der Zwaan is pleading guilty to making false statements to the FBI about his work as an attorney for Paul Manafort and the Kremlin’s puppet government in Ukraine. Van der Zwaan is the son-in-law of German Khan, a Russian oligarch who is suing Fusion GPS for defamation as the result of their release of the Steele Dossier. Van der Zwaan appears to be working as a cooperating witness. Speaking of cooperating witnesses, Manafort’s long-time number two is set to plead guilty, a plea that will doubtlessly up the pressure on Manafort. *In case y’all were wondering why the… Read more »

Maybe it’s because Mike Pence: – Supported (and probably still supports) “conversion therapy” a practice premised on the notion that homosexuality is a mental disorder and LGBT individuals are mentally ill and in need of psychiatric treatment in order to “cure” them of their “disease.” – Voted against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would have banned discrimination based sexual orientation, saying that the law “wages war on freedom and religion in the workplace.” As a result of Pence’s efforts, companies can fire you or refuse to hire you if you’re gay or lesbian. – Pence long opposed allowing LGBT individuals… Read more »

Correction Mr. Pope. Pence, his daughter and her friends didn’t walk out of Hamilton. He was booed coming in, and then they did a special encore written by Lin Manual during the show which the leads of the cast rapped for him about LGBT issues.

I’ll accept the correction but add that I have a hard time believing that a steadfastly anti-gay politician and running mate for a famously anti-immigrant candidate went to a Broadway musical, let alone one with an almost exclusively minority cast and a gay lead without any intention of garnering that exact reaction.

It’s like a Bears fan intentionally donning a “Rodgers sucks and Favre blows” shirt and acting surprised when he gets booed by folks at Lambeau.

I believe it was a gift for his daughter, and at the time he had a security detail, his family did not. He did leave during the rap.

I’ve sat in Soldier’s Field with a Reggie White jersey and a ‘Da’ Bears Still Suck” hat. As long as you don’t polka after the Pack scores, it’s not as bad as you would think.

That’s because Bears fans are infinitely more civilized.

Not really, We are about even on the Heathen scale of fan commitment. To a Packer fan, it more then a team, it’s your family.

We do have unwritten rules of engagement which are followed. Like not doing a Polka at the other teams field. You leave Nitschke out of the name calling, We’ll leave Butkus. Each side shows endless respect for Payton and White, and no one does nothing to anyone’s beer EVER.

I spent a weekend with a friend outside of Milwaukee one time. On a lake. We putted around on a boat and visited all the lakeside neighbors. Everybody had a keg going. I think I drank 24 beers a day for 2 days straight. Partly explains why I am the way I am I suppose.

Benevolus summed up every other weekend of the my summers between 1990-1997. If not beer, then my paren’t orange Colman water jug with old fashions. We had a DBD, a lot of life jackets, some skies and tubes. Always picked a lake/river with a supper club or tavern having dock access to have lunch or dinner, unless we were on a lake some one had a family cabin or camp site located.

Jack Kingston adding insult to injury. Is he now just the guy they have go out to float the newest spins with the worst implications?

It was beyond embarrassing. It was disgusting and he should be ashamed.

Hey has The President said how he is going to get Mexico to pay for The Wall yet? Or is it a secret? If Mexico knows the plan they would be able to thwart it?
