Here’s an interactive map from AJC that shows county level data. https://www.ajc.com/news/feds-set-to-release-2020-census-data/4NT7E3XMHZFBBDK5T5IK5NNOVE/ I know in general terms why black belt counties are emptying. What’s the story behind McIntosh County’s population loss? It seems odd since they increased more than 25 % the last census and the one before that too. The AP had a good story on the census too. https://apnews.com/article/race-and-ethnicity-census-2020-7264a653037e38df7ba67d3a324fc90d If you flip through their photos you’ll see several of empty buildings in Bostwick Georgia. I like the AP a lot but if they think that Bostwick was abandoned this past decade they’re wrong. Even if they are, they make up for it by printing this map that shows what parts of the country are growing, generally everything west of the Rockies, metro Texas, most of Florida, Atlanta/Nashville/Charlotte, much of Atlantic coast, northern Virginia to Boston. https://storage.googleapis.com/afs-prod/media/5fb702d6c7f74147b5903e0cb6fdf7dd/1000.jpeg August 13, 2021 4:31 PM Log in to Reply armanidog “I know in general terms why black belt counties are emptying. Mainly retired folks. They are passing away and their heirs do not want to live there. A lot of houses for sale in McIntosh County. https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-search/McIntosh-County_GA I used to live on St. Simons and was in McIntosh County quite a bit. Unless you have waterfront access it is a 2-3 hour drive to a beach. August 13, 2021 8:18 PM Log in to Reply Add a Comment Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
