Two Special Elections Set

The Secretary of State’s office announced today that a special Democratic primary election will be held on February 9 for House District 90. They also announced a special election for District Attorney in the Griffin Judicial Circuit on the same day. More details can be seen below.

Georgia State House District 90

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Wednesday the date of the special Democratic primary election required for Georgia State House District 90, which became vacant with the withdrawal of Rep. Pamela Stephenson.

The special election will be held on February 9, 2020 for the district, which includes parts of DeKalb, Henry, and Rockdale Counties. A run-off, if needed, shall be held on March 9, 2021.

Qualifying for the Georgia House District 90 special primary election will be held at the Democratic Party of Georgia, 501 Pulliam Street, Suite 400, Atlanta, Georgia, 30312. The qualifying period will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; Thursday, December 17, 2020 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; and Friday, December 18, 2020 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 1:00 p.m. The qualifying fee shall be $400.00.

Monday, January 11, 2021 is the last day to register to vote for the special primary election. Advance in-person absentee voting will begin on Monday, January 18, 2021.

District Attorney, Griffin Judicial Circuit

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Wednesday the date of the special election required for the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney, which became vacant due to the appointment of The Honorable Ben Coker to the Superior Court of the Griffin Judicial Circuit.

The special election will be held on February 9, 2020 for the circuit, which includes parts of Fayette, Pike, Spalding, and Upson Counties. A run-off, if needed, shall be held on March 9, 2021.

Qualifying for the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney special election will be held at the in the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE, West Tower Suite 802, Atlanta, Georgia 30334. The qualifying period will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; Thursday, December 17, 2020 beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; and Friday, December 18, 2020 beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 1:00 p.m. The qualifying fee shall be $3,674.20.
