Anti-Ralston Delegates Lose Floor Fight

A resolution to force the Georgia Republican Party to weigh-in on a Georgia House of Representatives matter did not make it to the floor this weekend. Part of what made the convention longer was debate on the semantics of Rule 3 of the convention rules.

The resolution was not submitted on time according to the rules per my understanding, so the Anti-Ralston forces decided to try and change the rule to allow the resolution to be introduced from the floor. That effort failed, and the resolution did not make it to the floor.

Speaker David Ralston issued a statement about this whole ordeal:

“I invite those who have wasted time and resources selling a misleading, manufactured narrative to join with us now as we work to grow jobs in every part of Georgia, to reduce the completely unacceptable maternal mortality in our state, and to reform our mental health services to make them more accessible and more affordable.  Georgians expect and deserve no less!”

The taskforce made their recommendations at the end of the legislative session. They were added to HB 502 (by Andy Welch). It passed the Senate unanimously. It passed the House with one dissenting vote (Gurtler).  Governor Kemp signed HB 502 into law.
