Rep. Woodall Issues Statement on Failure to Fully Re-Open Government

The United States Senate did not proceed today with the consideration of the “End The Shutdown And Secure The Border Act.” The legislation sought to fully reopen the government while also funding $5.7 billion for the wall and additional security measures at the border. The Senate also did not advance a counter proposal by Democrats that sought to reopen the government without providing any substantive border security funding.

Rep. Rob Woodall (R, GA-7):

“We’ve tried it both ways now in the Senate, and it is clear that work is required between the President and Congressional leaders, and we need Speaker Pelosi to come back to the table. The House passed Speaker Pelosi’s version of a funding bill, the Senate rejected Senate Minority Leader Schumer’s version of a funding bill, the Senate rejected the current proposal from the President, and refusing to sit at the negotiating table fails to move the ball forward. Each of us is failing at our job if we can’t work together and secure our southern border and put our public servants back to work. It is my sincere hope that Speaker Pelosi come back to the table and work for a solution that ends this shutdown and secures the southern border. Instead of pointing fingers, let’s sit down and get to work.”
