“Morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. Judicial decrees may not change the heart, but they can restrain the heartless.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

An appropriate quote on MLK day as we head into another week of the legislature.

Great posts Raleigh. The dishonesty of the press is staggering. Just pick on the white kid with the Trump hat. He has to be the problem right? BS! The black race baiting haters start hurling insults first. Then Sitting Bull (Perfect name fort this jack ass) beating his little tom tom comes in for more hate. Why? For wearing a GD red hat. Tell me that is not out of this world hatred and profiling of half of the country by a group of off the chain haters! And the press without any honestly laps it up to destroy the… Read more »

I’ll be curious to see how people’s income taxes work out this year.
My wife and I each saw about $30/wk extra in our paychecks last year once the “tax reform” kicked in, so we set that additional amount aside in case. Turns out we may owe even more than that. We are both claiming married with 0 deductions and we are still not having enough withheld.

Are a lot of people going to be surprised? Did a lot of people spend their windfall? Will they now wish they didn’t?

Benvev, you just proved the libs were lying AGAIN about Trump’s tax cut! This is hilarious. It was mainly a corporate tax cut bringing back millions of jobs here and trillions in money overseas…and it did that. It made America competitive again after years and years of socialist anti competitive tax rates making the US uncompetitive. These same tax cuts and improvements and not one liberal “chud” voted for that. Remember that folks at the polls. What do you guys give us? More Bernie, Cortez, hate and Marxism…what a winner. The libs of course lied about the tax cut and… Read more »

Benev, you are almost ready to become a conservative. What took you so long? I don’t mind anyone bitching about taxes. Let me get this straight…you are BITCHING ABOUT HAVING $30 MORE IN YOUR PAYCHECK NOT LESS!! What about the rest of us “chuds” that had to endure 242 tax passed by Obama and the democrats!? That number was fact checks by the AJC a while back… that is where I got my number. THE GUY YOU AND SO MANY CHUDS VOTED FOR DID WHAT? Taxed everything you can think of and then some. Lets see there were increases in… Read more »

I’m wondering about this too. I haven’t filed yet but I’m concerned the changes in deductions are going to get me. And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.

Duck, you are not on welfare. You aint getting much of if any tax cut. Guess who keeps telling you the rich got the tax cuts? The lying liberal chuds.

Corporations did because we had an idiotic tax code making America uncompetitive. Thank you Donald Trump. For decades to come. Not one democratic vote. Idiots.

When it’s a disposable nobody like Steve King, the GOP is on it like white on rice After Tim Scott leads the way. When it’s the occupant of the WH on birtherism, “it’s not my job to tell the American people what to think. Our job in Washington is to listen to the American people … Listen, the American people have the right to think what they want to think. I can’t — it’s not my job to tell them.” “One of the things I always think about is, whenever I do what it is that I do, that the… Read more »

Reminds me of a good (if slightly pretentious-sounding in this era of Twitterspeak) column by George Will this weekend.
“His protectionism — government telling Americans what they can consume, in what quantities and at what prices — completes his extinguishing of the limited-government pretenses of the GOP…

I wouldn’t say they were on it. Steve King has been showing his white supremacy drawers out the back of his pants for years now. He won re-election with everyone knowing exactly what he was. He finally dropped his pants in public and they had to do something.

At some point Tim Scott is going to start wondering why he has to be the first guy to say something in these situations.

They were on it after Tim Scott led the way.

The gop dumped on King because they noticed the drubbing the party got in Nov and finally realized that down the road they might well need votes from the cohorts King habitually unloads on. King has made offensive and abusive comments for years without the gop giving a good damn because he says what a lot of them think, only out loud and with a screw loose. The fact that King had to scrap for re-election against an unknown and underfunded dem–he won by 10K in a district with 70K registration advantage–made it easier to respond, since it’s the weak… Read more »

LMAO! Can I get anuther “AWWWWW NAWWWWW!!”
In June of 2008, Good Morning America predicted the following things due to Global Warming by 2015:
1. NYC under water
2. A gallon of milk will cost $12.99
3. A gallon of gas will cost $9.00

“Global Warming is a hoax. It is bad science. It is hijacking public policy. It is the biggest scam in human history.” John Coleman, Founder of The Weather Channel

Noway, how many people have died from global warming in the history of the planet? Zero. How many live on the planet today precisely due to climate change? 7.5 billion. Thank you climate change!!! Why do libs want to spend not billions but Trillions of dollars on climate change?! Could it be to rob you blind and gaining the power to control your life? Have you seen politicians make it rain or turn a cold day like today into one I can play golf comfortably? Could it be a Marxist plot against capitalism. Are we getting closer to a little… Read more »

I can easily answer this! Do you see what happens to conservative politicians anywhere in the country? Depending on the venue and the % of snowflakes in the area, the libs are going to be encouraged to “get in their face” throw bricks threw their windows, threaten them at restaurants, the FBI will J Edgar you, the press destroy you or maybe you will be shot on a softball field. This is from the supposed tolerant left…They will be protested, shouted down and even prevented from speaking on college campuses and their statues overturned by fruit loops if they are… Read more »

I don’t know if I’m impressed or dismayed at the latently blind transference of your unrealistic display of loathing for anything unjustifiably ruled (by you) as snowflakary and a fear of lib world domination – resulting in a complete run-on mix drink of bath tub gin and badly pickled pearl onion wordsmithing – derived from a pointed article on the Pence and Kushner ‘compromise’ that they knew would not work but hoped would defect the blame away from Trump to stop the slow erosion of his polling numbers and only resulted in a dash of Coulter bitterness.

The president reneges on deals made with his own party. I don’t know why we are all pretending that negotiation is the way out of this impasse. The way out is to override a veto.

Nice write up on Nathan Glazer. I remember having to do a short class presentation on the Neo-Conservative movement in my high school political science class in 1986 in which he was a key member. At the time I was more interested in his commentary of Maya Lin’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial. (Team Maya!). I was hay to see in the link from the story to the 2016 National affairs article a paragraph on his thoughts on the memorial and Maya Lin in general. I recommend reading all the links too. Time consuming but worth the effort.

The trump shutdown tantrum is bad news for government workers, contractors and for the country at large. Its another gift to Putin. But if you’re a silver lining type person it has produced one bit of great news.
