Since I am comfortably poor here in the boondocks, I will enjoy this cold rain while sitting in front of my wood stove today.
I feel for you all driving to work in this rain. I remember those days of waiting for the light to change while the winter rain falls and the car windows try to fog up.

Yeah, let’s all watch stochastic terrorism in action. I think I will pass.

For us little people, stick with smaller words. I am not impressed. Deplorables don’t know what stochastic means.

Now “spastic” is fine. We can all watch Obama throw out the first pitch at a ball game, watch him play golf in that sombrero of a golf hat much less bowl in his mom jeans and see spastic in action!

Stochastic terrorism:
the public demonization of a person or group resulting in the incitement of a violent act, which is statistically probable but whose specifics cannot be predicted

Ellynn
Ellynn

DTM, my ninth grade English teacher would be very upset if you had been her student and didn’t recall what stochastic meant…

However, Caroline used a whole phrase, ‘stochastic terrorism’ – use of mass communications to stir up random lone wolves to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable.

Just about ready for today’s morning shift taking our elderly members to the polls. I’m thinking of getting my CDL permit! Making sure they all have their rain coats and umbrellas. I’m hearing the rain is no deterrent! Not surprised. They’re all talking in the van about how much they just love Trump!! The words “Kav” and “Invasion” are getting everyone all riled up!! Federal authorities have arrested a New York man on charges of unlawfully manufacturing an explosive device, after they say he constructed a 200-pound bomb which he intended to detonate on the National Mall in Washington D.C. on Election Day next month.

Rosenfeld adheres to an ideology called Sortition, which advocates that government officials should be selected by lottery rather than popular vote, according to the complaint.

There are 9,000 individuals, not one monolithic entity. You and the media and all Americans would be better served if you look at the individuals, and don’t assume it’s a monolith. And they’re not a mob because they’re not carrying pitchforks and torches, btw- all they have is strollers and bottled water. And using the word “mob” is not just inaccurate, it’s just like “invaders” lite. There’s probly some kook that will shoot folks for supporting letting “mobsters” into the country. Try to recognize how inaccurate exaggeration dehumanizes ppl and opens the door to hate, which in turn opens the… Read more »

Dehumanizing…isn’t that the exact purpose of the term deplorables? Irredeemable? All conservatives are all of the terms that are used on this blog? You can’t deal with “these hideous folks” and act civilly until “we” win!! Who said that? Case closed! In the last few days a Trump loving idiot mailed a bunch of bombs. A Trump hating idiot kills folks at a synagogue… some will rail that the other guys caused these nut jobs to do this…how productive it that? Isn’t it just a bunch of intolerant haters continuing the hate fest? Just piling it on deeper. Okay there… Read more »

I think we all have 2 basic responsibilities when it comes to hateful language and setting up a civil atmosphere.
1) Don’t use hateful language.
2) Call out others who use hateful language (even if you agree w the underlying political point).

None of the language may 100% “cause” nutjobs to act but all of it increases that probability.
For my part, I’ve been clear I never supported any call to act uncivilly, or use uncivil language. I even do my best to make sure my insults carry meaning and aren’t just an empty “Idiot!”

Balance, I think your post is pretty much spot on. I just wonder about the “hateful rhetoric increases the probability”. I think there is some truth to that, but I doubt normal liberals listening to a Trump Rally are likely to go kill anyone much less a normal conservative listening to Hillary. The wackos are wackos. Lets say we all wear a MAGA today and walk down the street or maybe at the mall. And then wear a Hillary hat tomorrow. How many negative comments do you think you will get much less assaults or have your hat knocked off?.… Read more »

No, deplorable is an adjective meaning a description meaning your views are deplorable not that you personally are subhuman. It doesn’t imply you are a criminal. It doesn’t imply you have anything other than deplorable ideas and act deplorably which many Trumpers do.

Dehumanization occurs across several domains; is facilitated by status, power, and social connection; and results in behaviors like exclusion, violence, and support for violence against others.

And no, interrupting someone’s meal at a restauarnt is not violent. Praising a congressman for beating up a reporter is encouraging violence. Learn the difference.

Where does ethnic cleansing come in? And the rest of the bilge? Looked like a Trump hater was doing some ethnic cleaning the other day. Sick SOB. And a Trump lover sending bombs. Sort of blurry narrative isn’t it? And I am not saying there is a tie in because there aint. Blame the perp. Stifle the no win blame game. That does nothing but stir hatred. Now is that part of the get out the vote narrative of some political party for years? You tell me.

Caroline
Caroline

I told you a while back Trump was encouraging ethnic cleansing and you refused to acknowledge that fact. And he wasn’t a Trump hater. He was further right than Trump. Calling him a Trump hater is in fact something you guys are doing to try to deflect responsiblity from Trump and conservative media. Trump is the one that said those caravans were coming to “invade” the country. Fox News has been pushing the idea that the caravans were being fundied by Jews. Trump and the conservative media have been nonstop blaming George Soros for funding everything. That is antisemitism. Nationalism… Read more »

Tell us exactly what “ethnic cleansing” Trump has advocated?

Caroline
Caroline

Promoting nationalism is promoting ethnic cleansing. That has been the history of nationalism in this country and many other countries over the last 100 years. And if you’re saying Trump doesn’t understand the meaning of what he is saying then you can use the he’s an idiot excuse.

Noway2016

So, the answer to who he wants to ethnically cleanse is “no one.” Thought so…

It is cleaning out everyone who is not white nor Christian. You are too obtuse to get the message because you are excluded. Look no further than the Jewish communittee in Pittsburgh telling Trump not to come there until he denounces white nationalism.

I agree that saying the nutjob hated Trump is a deflection from the reality of Trump’s rhetoric and cultural influence. The word “invader” was in the nutjob’s mouth, shortly after it came out of Trump’s mouth. Call Trump a symptom not the disease if you want, but he certainly hasn’t been the cure, and he has the power to cure if he wants, so at best he’s negligent. With great power comes great responsibility, after all. And the Soros conspiracy theory with little doubt did inflame anti-Semitism. I won’t expect many apologies from those who pushed the conspiracy theory, though.… Read more »

Caroline the amount of blind hatred you have boiling in you is not healthy. You can in no way back up your babble but you can spend countless hours repeating it. Did you kill anyone today because Trump is proud of the unemployment rates in all areas of the country? What is racist about that? Not a damn thing. Did I go kill anyone alter listening to you or a bunch of democrats call everyone you disagree with all of these awful, not verifiable, not logical things you hurl? Why would anyone believe such bilge? Do you know how tiresome… Read more »

Mike Pence: “And what the President and I stand for, and I think every American stands for, is that threats or acts of political violence, from anyone, anywhere, should not be allowed.” I refer to Pence as a toady weirdo with good cause: “Any guy that can do a body slam — he’s my kind of guy,” said Trump only ten days ago to cheers and laughter from supporters. (It’s worth nothing Trump had words of praise for the assault when he posted video of it a year ago.) Only six days ago Trump said: “You know what I am?… Read more »

And you genuinely believe he was really referring to himself as a white supremacist when he called himself a “Nationalist?” Like a code word or something?? And not continuing his “America First” kinda guy by using that term? Meaning that he’s an unapologeticly pro-American advocate? Am I reading your interpretation right?

Dave Bearse

I don’t know if Trump is a racist or a white supremacist—-I’m a second chance/not everyone evolves at the same rate guy. Trump discriminating in renting to African Americans and not apologizing for advocating for the death penalty for the Central Park Five occurred decades ago. Trump however launched his candidacy from his leadership of the Birtherism platform, which leads me to definitively say, borrowing from Andrew Gillum, that white supremacists think Trump is a white supremacist. So, yeah, it is a code word or something, especially when Trump prefaces that statement with the remark that he’s not supposed to… Read more »

Dave you know damn well Pence or Trump are neither racists or white supremacists. I don’t think anyone is any position of power in Washington on either side is a stinking racist. No one would stand for it. Robert Byrd is the only Klansman I know of that was. I think he changed his tune over the years and was not a racist when he died. A host of southern Democrats years ago damn sure were racists. Including Al Gore’s dad, George Wallace and dozens of others. I don’t think Gore is a racist by the way. Y’all need to… Read more »

What would it take for you to believe that DT is white supremicist? Would killing a black or brown person in the middle of 5th avenue do it? You’re not going to convince the MAGA crowd so I stopped trying. In the immortal words of Melania, they really don’t care. DT has 40 year history to examine including the last three.

One final thought: Charles Manson never killed anyone but he died in prison because of his words.

Dave, where did Obama start his campaign? In the basement of domestic terrorist….Am I wrong on that?

Nope. But I don’t think Obama is a racist. He has a different vision for the country. Nothing more evil that that. Trump is the same way.

Why in the hell does he take pride in the lowest black and Hispanic as well as lowest unemployment rates for women in decades or even in historical terms? Hardly something a racist or misogynist would brag about is it?

Try another angle.

He is not supposed to say the stinking word “nationalist because leftist loons have high jacked the GD word to mean something that it doesn’t. That is why he prefaced the remark. And he was telling the darn truth.

If you think he is saying he is a white supremacist, you are gullible, out of your mind or you fill in the blank… Should you feel relieved to know that he is not or do you prefer to live in a hate filled echo chamber?

Noway2016

You ain’t gonna change their hatred, DTM. They’ve been seething since ’16 and they’ll glom onto any perceived opening to slam Trump. While you continue to list Trump’s dozens of promises kept and continuing accomplishments! We are not gonna see a Red Wave in 10 days. It’s gonna be a Red Asteroid! And the Liberal Disease will continue.

Nah, the common meaning of “nationalist” changed decades ago when white supremacists started using it for their cause. And even before then, back over a hundred years, it still had an imperious implication. Imperious meaning imperial. And no one is looking for the U.S. to be the Empire of Earth. So, then, where did Trump hear that word? Either his 3rd grade history/Social Studies textbook, or white supremacist media. We know he’s in touch with supremacist media because he has retweeted many many white supremacist stuff. Many many. But we also know he doesn’t know history well— just ask Frederick… Read more »

Sorry balance. Pitifully weak. Yea go read the Klan book. That ought to get you ginned up. Why don’t you read the history of the democratic party?
