Is there a medical term for an autonomic mouth?

For anyone who missed it, Bill Maher interview with Steve Bannon published 9/28/18 – 13:10 long.
(a couple of cuss words are uttered):

Andrew C. Pope
Andrew C. Pope

I don’t think I’ve ever rooted harder to see a building collapse.

armanidog

The whole thing or just the Right side?

Andrew C. Pope

Just the area over the stage. In lieu of a building collapse, I would have also accepted a strategically placed sinkhole or chasm.

Maher’s imperfect, but why such disdain?

Andrew C. Pope
Andrew C. Pope

The smug douchecaggery which drips from his every word. His frequent sexist asides. His racially questionable comments like “I’m a house n*$€&r.” Using atheism as a cover for raging Islamaphobia. His general disdain for folks who dare believe in the concept of God. His willingness to give a platform to alt-right scumbags like Milo and Bannon. That his stand-up hasn’t been funny in over 20 years. The fact he’s been surpssed by any number of better comics: Colbert, Stewart, Noah, Oliver, to name a few.

Benevolus

I know. He’s almost heading down the Dennis Miller path of trying to be funny by being intellectually controversial.
Why can’t millionaires just retire when their work is done?

bethebalance

So not a fan of either his politics or comedy…
I have a fairly nuanced view of his views on religion and Islam, but I struggle with whether or not having guests like Milo or Bannon are the way to go. I think I feel differently abt Milo than abt Bannon.
But he challenges them face-to-face, and does show how civil discourse is possible even with ppl you may feel very negatively about.
Granted, he’s no Jon Stewart, whom I miss on the regular.

Maher and Hillary are prime examples of why the democrats lost. So arrogant and pointing out the speck in someone else’s eye and not see the Redwood tree growing out of theirs. If anyone thinks left wing populism is nothing more than government control, misery, poverty and hatred they are uninformed. Freedom is a good thing.

Benev, only a nitwit can say women don’t have freedom in this country!! Have you been to Saudi Arabia or the Middle East?

I need a radical lib to help him here! Last I checked my wife, daughter and mom can vote, work, run for office, go to college and do any damn thing they want. The Catholic priests and Bill Cosby were also facing civil and/or criminal penalties. If he isn’t confirmed Kavanaugh is going to go back to a cushy lifetime appointment to the DC Circuit, a job that pays him nearly $180K a year. Literally the only thing he’s being denied is a $25K raise.

A new poll is out. Still shows a dead heat (where did that term come from?).

I really liked that movie, even though it followed the same storyline as the original movie very closely, it was well done and that Daisy Ridley has great screen presence.

“Still shows a dead heat (where did that term come from?).”
My Google-fu at work:

“A dead heat in horse racing
The Oxford English Dictionary attributes the term to horse racing. Meets formerly had the same horses run several “heats” in a day, with victors being decided by the total number of wins. A heat which had no clear single winner was discounted from these tallies and was therefore “dead”

Give me a break. Who thinks Kavanaugh did that to that woman? Let’s say you are on a jury and heard all the evidence…what say You? Evidence please!

There’s currently insufficient evidence to think that with any certainty. But what is certain is that Kavanaugh is a liar and unfit to serve as a judge, so we don’t have to think that to disapprove of him.

Amen Raleigh. And there is a huge pattern of abuse with Catholic priests over the years and nothing with this guy. There was massive line of victims with the Clintons, not here. There’s also existing circumstantial evidence which corroborates the testimony. Even Kav’s calendar entry circumstantially corroborates by bolstering Ford’s credibility. Then Ramirez and other accusers will corroborate, although Kav’s friends may deny. But there is easily going to be enough evidence that the right thing to do is put it in front of the “jury”. It’s just not an impartial “jury”.

White Priv – Not a conundrum when it comes to education. Our schools are not equal and education is a one chance opportunity. Just picking a statistic for convenience, a parent that selects a school where the average 3rd grader performs at a 4th grade level instead of a diverse school where 70% of the 3rd graders are not “proficient” is a sane rational choice knowing at what level the class is being taught. For DTM, welcome back.

Look at this explanation of populism, which Trump and Bannon espouse.
From Encylopedia Brittanica-

“In its contemporary understanding, however, populism is most often associated with an authoritarian form of politics. Populist politics, following this definition, revolves around a charismatic leader who appeals to and claims to embody the will of the people in order to consolidate his own power. In this personalized form of politics, political parties lose their importance, and elections serve to confirm the leader’s authority rather than to reflect the different allegiances of the people. ”

Dave Bearse
Dave Bearse

Note to DTM. It started well before college, and being often stumbling drunk, belligerent, and a puker is a bit more than drinking beer. That doesn’t disqualify Kavanaugh, but lying under oath, partisanship, and inadequate judicial temperment do.

auh2o
auh2o

What is inadequate judicial temperament?

bethebalance

Temperament may seem like it’s entirely a matter of opinion, but it involves maintaining impartiality and independence at every stage, giving fair hearing, etc. For the Supreme Court, the expectations are even more clear, because there are no trials, there won’t be any frivolous cases, etc.. And every case is important- so Justices would be expected to afford respect and solemnity for all parties and decisions. Yelling, angry diatribes, and partisanship all weigh against the desired and expected temperament for a S.Ct. Justice. Kav’s temperament was more suited for a show like Judge Judy’s.
