Happy Fall, Y’all. It’s hotter than August and we have 6 Mondays until Election Day. May the good Lord send rain and cool temperatures for our faithful sign teams and neighborhood canvassers.

yes, it’s “officially” Fall, which means pumpkin spice everything, HalloThanksMas decorations in the stores, and SCOTUS!

The 8-and-holding October 2018 sitting officially begins next Monday, October 1, with arguments in six cases over the first three days (and four more the following week), but the Justices’ first conference is today with new orders expected Thursday. (h/t SCOTUSblog.com)

I’ve been wondering why the rush for confirmation of Kav, and listened to the explanation that they want him seated before Oct. term. Is this just a euphemism for “before the election”, or is there a case that is being heard early in the term that has broad political implications?

John Vestal
John Vestal

Nothing that I would call “major” (not that my opinion means anything), but there’s a capital punishment case (Madison v Alabama) scheduled for next Tuesday, and another (Bucklew v Precythe) scheduled for November 6.

Full list of merits cases granted (to date) for this term: from SCOTUSblog.com

I appreciate the links.
And your opinion is not meaningless.
But I was thinking the kinds of cases with broad political implications would be stuff like apportionment, campaign finance, voter ID, Executive power.

Well, it’s time for Ol’ Noway’s monthly lunch at Myrtles with my buds! Fried chicken, okra, field peas, green beans with fatback, and Loretta’s cole slaw!!! Loretta, on more than one occasion, asked us to read her, “one of them emails…” before breaking out in her familiar cackle at the contents!!! Actually, our sides were hurting more than usual! This one’s for Drew. How soon after confirmation do you think is proper before Kav sues these women for defamation? Feinstein, too. Since she didn’t say her crap from The Well. Ooooooops! So, not the world of politics, but Drake (probly an unfamiliar name to those who still tune in to the Oldies or AM Radio), is in fact suing a woman, who is accusing him of assault, for defamation. I think if you are truly innocent, this would be the kind of move you make. It could also be a way to intimidate the accuser, and leverage your power and money to coerce silence, but an honest accuser with a little bit of willpower and desire could survive the legal battle. So, in this scenario, where the Plaintiff has the burden… Read more »

Hey did anyone see all of those rich, white, racist GA crackers cheering on the black guy at East Lake yesterday? What a great event, sight and story. And it had nothing to do with race.

Could it be that the left is lying to you…again?

“Nothing to do with race.”

Just when I thought you were being a little more race-conscious. If you don’t think part of the popular appeal of Tiger Woods, and a critical part of his story, has anything to do with race, that’s just ignorant. It is certainly just a piece of his story, and his race may not be important to you. But it’s not about you, as you usually assume.

You do you, man.
Of course content of character transcends race.
But you can both “judge” a person on their character, and recognize their historical and cultural roots at the same time.
And while you may not need an African-American role model, it is beneficial(and certainly not harmful) to recognize that others benefit from one.
The whole point is not to downplay race, or pretend it isn’t important, even if there are other more important things going on.

That Brexit link is about Labour and they’ve pretty much left the wrangling with EU to the Tories who are on the verge of embracing chaos and saying screw it, we don’t need any deal. The hard-Brexit people want to break clean from the EU and at the same time dictate the terms of new GB/EU agreements and that’s not going to happen. The alternative looks more and more like a disaster where supplies of essentials like food, fuel, medicine dry up, planes can’t land, entry ports are clogged, workers leave, and smuggling with NI becomes routine. As for the Jones Day thing. Francisco has a two-year recusal obligation from any particular matter in which Jones Day is representing a party. He’d need a waiver from the White House (assuming he’d actually want the task of overseeing Mueller’s investigation). But for all other DAG duties, Francisco would take those on.
.
If Francisco doesn’t get a waiver or recuses from Mueller investigation, it would be Steven Engel in Office of Legal Counsel.

Bless your heart. . For starters, there are 4 insurers in Georgia. However, only 14 counties have two or more individual marketplace insurers. . The reason folks in rural Georgia only have one individual marketplace option has nothing to do with doctors. Anthem provides insurance in 85 of Georgia’s 159 counties, you’d be hardpressed to find a doctor unwilling to take Blue Cross Blue Shield. . The reason there’s only one provider in these counties is because of the fact there isn’t enough of a population base to support two or more insurers.
