Monday Morning Reads – July 30

Happy Monday! Shoutout to Theresa for taking over the Monday MRs last week while I was out.

The TSA has reported on the in-flight behaviors of a small group of fliers under a program called “Quiet Skies.” This raises questions about surveillance during flights.

General John Kelly, once praised for his ability to tame wild animals, is now little more than a traffic controller, if that. His role these days is not quite traditional.

Congressman John Lewis was hospitalized after falling ill on a plane.

Amazon looms large over the Governors race. Both Kemp and Abrams support tax incentives, but outside groups are applying pressure on them.

Eight panels weighing 500 tons each took a total of 16 minutes to open and close. The Mercedes-Benz stadium roof is complete.

Notorious RBG: I have five more years on the Supeme Court, probably.

Sounds like a great party! Can we bring our pink hats, participation trophies, teddy bears and crying pillows? I hope he has a crying closet and a safe space room. If you got lost just look for the house with the yards signs “This is a “Gun Free Zone”, “Give Peace a Chance”, “Don’t Blame Me I voted for Hillary”, “Me Too”, White Guilt is Real” and “Only Black Lives Matter” . We can toss our man- card in the recyclable compost pit in the front yard…Speaking of compost…

ACP’s legal tip of the day:
.
When it comes to defense work, consistency is KEY! If your defense attorney is an increasingly senile old man who hasn’t represented an actual client in decades, don’t book him for a national TV interview, because he may change your well-honed defense lines of “no collusion” and “I didn’t know about any meaning” to “well collusion isn’t a crime” and “he knew about it, but he didn’t attend the meeting.”

“It would appear to me that if I’m Kelly, I would say to the president, ‘Do not talk to Michael Cohen anymore, it’s not in your interest. But I would have someone else talk to Michael Cohen…so he wouldn’t feel like he was out on a limb, and that the limb was being sawed off.” — Jack Kingston
.
Apparently Jack didn’t get the memo that Cohen is long time lair. Or maybe he did. After all, Kingston has been defending an intemperate buffoon of a liar for a couple of year now.

“so he wouldn’t feel like he was out on a limb, and that the limb was being sawed off.”
Despite the fact that he IS out on a limb, and the limb is being sawed off.
So, lie to him!

Rudy Giuliani has become a national laughingstock. Now the goalposts have been moved again. I would guess Mueller is moving in on Trump. Rudy needs to learn the word “conspiracy” because while collusion is not a crime conspiracy is.

I guess this is the latest “breaking news”…is any of this helping anyone get a job or just more Jerry Springer? Aint gonna be any charges on Trump because their is no collusion, whatever the hell that is. Is it collusion to hire Russian spies to gin up a fake dossier, have your law firm pay the dossier creator, even have this informant on the FBI payroll. The FBI and Justice Department clearly exonerated one candidate before any interviews and then 3 days later tried to frame and destroy the other political candidate and later the new president. We have… Read more »

Please provide proof for the assertion that anyone paid Russian informants cited in the Steele Dossier. Otherwise, I’m gonna have to assume you’re blindly talking out of your a– again.

Also, still waiting on those page references from over a week ago.

OK, why not: is any of this helping anyone get a job No. What’s your point? . Aint gonna be any charges on Trump because their is no collusion The “collusion” is not specifically about Trump. It is an investigation to see if there was any collusion, and if so, who was involved. There is a lot of smoke and that is why the press keeps pressing on this. And Trump doesn’t help himself because he is acting just as you would expect a guilty mobster to act. But it may just be others, or no one. We shall see.… Read more »

He was told that the Russian government wanted to help him. The RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT. He did not call the FBI. He did not do anything except the exact wrong thing which is say hey, yeah, let’s meet with them. The emails were stolen. If you receive stolen goods or conspire with someone who stole something it would be the same thing. So even if it isn’t proven that he conspired with the Russians or doesn’t meet the legal requirement for conspiracy you gotta say he’s the biggest useful idiot that Putin has ever had.

Trump tweets abt Mueller’s conflict of interest because of a “business relationship” gone wrong. We all know that’s only abt Mueller’s golf club membership. But to Trump, it’s a business relationship because it’s part of his business. All that is to point out that Trump is so Trump-absorbed that “relationship” and any objective or legal definition of a “business relationship” become ignored, subsumed by Trump-centrism and ego. And that’s the metaphor for everything he does. I just feel bad when ppl buy his BS. He’s just selling, and ppl keep buying. And that’s not good, because many of his products… Read more »

From the Kelly Politico link: “Many of Trump’s friends and advisers have concluded the president doesn’t really want a chief of staff — and he has several confidants urging him to operate without one. But for this president, keeping Kelly around offers the best of both worlds: somebody to blame when things go awry but nobody fettering his freedom of action.” …….. Kelly has done away with “meeting crashers,” the West Wing aides who showed up for meetings uninvited, according to a White House aide, but he has not been able to curb Trump’s practice of adding and subtracting advisers… Read more »

“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday announced $113 million in new technology, energy and infrastructure initiatives in emerging Asia at a time when China is pouring billions of dollars in investments into the region.” I may be senile but didn’t we already have a trading agreement with Asian nations to counter China’s influence in southeast Asia. What happened to that agreement. Oh, that’s right it was cancelled . That was a mistake, wasn’t it? Why is Brian Kemp using the official Georgia Secretary of State voter app to promote his campaign? Why do the social media links all lead to his official campaign pages? This is clearly deeply unethical behavior and is possibly illegally using a state platform to give an advantage to one candidate over another.

He shouldn’t have used an official account for his statement. The article shows just one response to his tweet, which seems wrong at first blush, but it also doesn’t make much sense. So there is probably a lot more context to it- i.e. there is probably a whole Twitter thread that was omitted in the article, and the thread may make that response make some sort of sense. Maybe not. But I’m not going to read it all. And Fox News won’t care to report it. And it’s not like you’ll care about the context. Which is why Fox News… Read more »

Big difference here. Most republicans recoil in horror when the press comes after them. Trump on the other hand will take on everyone. Including the press and the ridiculous bias that they now have. Including the biased FBI, Justice Department and the swamp. Taking on the rhino republicans. Taking on the UN and Nato when they are in the wrong. Entrenched trade deals that are too one sided. To me, having thin skin is the definition of being a snowflake. Whether the reaction is being sad or mad, it’s about a lack of a stable emotional core. I.e. the snowflake can melt or explode, but it still can’t stand up to adversity.
And this was referencing his banning of the CNN/pool reporter because he couldn’t tolerate the mere asking of the questions.
But he does seem to enjoy impromptu discussions w the press– when he can walk away when he wants.

I know that you know that the Women’s March was after the inauguration, because the point has been raised a number of times. I also know that you know that the Women’s March wasn’t about impeachment.

You’re being willfully obtuse at this point and merely repeating the same “copy+paste” rants you’ve been posting for months. You add nothing of value to this site.

I wanted to get a little perspective on this for DTM, and discovered that there were a couple of politically-active non-profits that started a website for impeachment on inauguration day. One could characterize that as the most oppositional position to take when you’re in the opposition. But if you wanna call that over-the-top and idiotic, lookie here:
https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/04/opinion/donald-trumps-impeachment-threat.html
Turns out Trumpy wanted to impeach Hillary BEFORE the election. And he promised endless investigations as well. Hmmm… Giuliani was in on it as well.
So, idiocy anyone?
