Monday Morning Reads — June 11

Happy Monday, everyone!

Last weekend’s G-7 meeting didn’t go exactly as planned. President Trump left our allies dismayed and, well, pissed.

The Failing New York Times does a great job of explaining the motivation behind Trump’s trade actions.

Casey Cagle released his latest television advertisement.

Two people sent this link to me, so here you go: A list of upcoming concerts in Atlanta.

Meet the guys who piece together Trump’s torn papers.

Here’s what you missed last week.

Deniro dropped an
Explitive.
People stood and cheered.
Ovations for demonstrations.
Robert standing up to a bully.
Then the boss came out,
All dressed in black,
Invited into his hometown
Or the memories that remain.
Not one dry eye remained after
Bruce closed his song
Under the radio city roof they cheered for
Springsteen.

Tony Awards were great last night. For those who haven’t seen Springsteen in Broadway yet, chop off and sell whatever appendage you need to in order to afford tickets.

1977 or 78 I acquired front row loge tickets for Springsteen at the Fox. My girlfriend’s only response was “Who?”. The crowd was maybe 2/3 capacity. The girlfriend is now my wife and I doubt she will let me spring for Broadway tix no matter how much she loved the show back then.

My wife – a non-Springsteen fan who still doesn’t quite get how her millennial husband is such an unabashed fan of the Boss – got me Broadway tickets for my 30th birthday. Suffice to say, she’s on the Springsteen bandwagon now.

Trump is out of control. Congress needs to step up and pass a resolution or three condemning his behavior so that the world knows he does not speak for this country but only for himself. They also need to challenge him on the so-called ‘national security’ reasoning for these tariffs. It’s B.S. If he wants to retaliate for other tariffs then just go through the process and let congress vote on it. This isn’t a damn banana republic. Yet. In any other context you would think he is trying to get fired. Republican leaders are so spineless they won’t even… Read more »

Two words: judicial appointments Mitch McConnell is incredibly open about who he is and what his motivations are. His support for Trump stems from his desire to shape the federal bench for the decades to come. This is why McConnell spent the last 4 years of the Obama Administration holding up lower court vacancies. This is why McConnell took the unprecedented step of stonewalling a Supreme Court vacancy. Trump’s general lack of interest in anything without his name attached to it gave McConnell free reign to stuff the judicial branch full of Federalist Society-approved judges who’ll be churning out reliably… Read more »

At points, he looked around trying to catch the eyes of others, as if looking for reassurance, the witnesses said. Some smiled back; others did not. He arrived 18 minutes late for a Saturday session on gender equality and did… Read more »

Isn’t it funny how quick the NRA is to lecture folks on what it means to be an American https://www.mcclatchydc.com/latest-news/article212756749.html Several prominent Russians, some in President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle or high in the Russian Orthodox Church, now have been identified as having contact with National Rifle Association officials during the 2016 U.S. election campaign, according to photographs and an NRA source. The contacts have emerged amid a deepening Justice Department investigation into whether Russian banker and lifetime NRA member Alexander Torshin illegally channeled money through the gun rights group to add financial firepower to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential bid.… Read more »

Andrew C. Pope

1) While I’m willing to believe that a guy who prefers KFC to Popeye’s and eats his steaks well-done and with ketchup would use something so basic as Russian dressing, Donald Trump’s waistline suggests the man has never eaten a single green vegetable, let alone an entire salad. 2) The NRA meeting with and – potentially – taking money from Russian oligarchs and then funneling that money into Trump’s campaign is a major issue on a number of fronts. For starters, our campaign finance system allows the NRA to spend freely on candidates like Trump without disclosing their donation sources.… Read more »

This is not about policies, or rhetoric, or anything like governing anymore. It is strictly about beating the enemy. There are some perennial enemies like Dems, any and all Clintons, Gores, Obamas, Carters, and cnn, but new enemies can be invented at any moment. We should call them Heat Guns because they are made enemies by virtue of their perceived attempts at melting the Snowflake In Chief’s fragile self-image. Today’s “no collusion” evidence:
“What everyone close to Paul Manafort already knew, and what The New York Times and other outlets later confirmed, is that Mueller was pseudonymously describing none other than Konstantin Kilimnik. Or to put it even more bluntly than Mueller: Donald Trump’s campaign chairman had a pawn of Russian intelligence as his indispensable alter ego.”

It’s pretty obvious that his campaign conspired against America. Likely Manfort is going to have his bail revoked and be spending the rest of his time in jail. Klimnik is a Russian agent. Putin obviously has kompromat on Trump based on his behavior at the G7. Now we have the NRA taking money from the Russians. We already knew they went to Russia and met with Putin. It would seem the entire GOP loves Putin. Apparently he is a natural ally.

For years, NK experts have stated that one of NK’s biggest foreign policy goals was a face-to-face meeting with the President of the United States. NK sees a head-of-state level meeting with the West as a recognition of the regime’s legitimacy and it’s why they’ve been pushing for this since the Clinton Administration (Albright’s meeting with Kim Jong-Il) was seen as a massive political victory for the North Korean leader. So before we even sit down at a table with Kim Jong-Un we’ve made one of the biggest concessions we can make. What did we get in exchange? Nothing. Trump… Read more »

Yes, it’s funny. In the age of Trump who has done 100x whatever Bill did they still can’t let go of their fantasy. Trump is also named in the Jeffrey Epstein case winding its way through the courts.
