Morning Reads for Friday, April 27, 2018
Apparently, Ginny was invited to across the Pond for the birth of the newest Prince and wedding prep for Harry and Meghan. So, you’ve got me for the next two Fridays. Hoooo-ray for you! Also, Happy ACTUAL Birth Day to my soon to be niece. A few more hours and we’ll have a new little member of the tribe.
- Bill Cosby was found guilty and apparently was not too happy about it.
- All of Sacramento and the entire True Crime community is pretty siked as of yesterday with the capture of the Golden State Killer.
- The Senate confirmed Mike Pompeo.
- There is a fair amount of drama in the Columbus Mayor’s Race; questionable city of residence, an unreasonable amount of traffic citations, and family violence charges.
- Savannah is spending a small and contentious fortune.
- Governor Deal says he isn’t leaning either way with the Eagles Landing issue.
- If you haven’t heard about Kanye and Trump’s bromance, this is a good place to start. According to my super cool “young friends”, Kanye lost over 7 million twitter followers almost immediately after tweeting his love for the president.
- I am not ashamed to admit I am a little obsessed with the Golden State Killer story. So was Michelle McNamara.
- It’s a valid question…
- Y’all. No way they are still working on the name. THEY HAD NINE MONTHS.

I’m sure “Tex” has spewed the, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” line dozens of times during the course of his life.
Mr. McIver is going to make someone very happy in prison.
LOL! Word on the street is that Pet Smart is experiencing a run on gerbils!

White House staffers leak the name of Trump’s latest VA nominee: Kanye West!
The city of Savannah should spend it’s ‘surplus’ on hiring new accountants and estimators. First it broke, then it its sending money on things like experimental traffic layouts from folk who suburbain, not urban traffic experts. Then it cancls the olice agreement over money, but sends small fortune on new vehicles, It raised meter fee’s and extending the charging hours for down town parking, changing the fire department funding stream, ignoring your own zoning laws, cut the entire budget of the renewal and development commissions, cut the grants (aka costs and staffing of city buildings) for cultural events and programs, cut the city park, teen, and after school programs aimed at children – ALL because they are ‘broke’ and NOW it want to spend surpluses on their pet projects.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
It took my parents 6 days to name me after I was born. Seriously. They had a boy name, and 3 other back up boy names with in 5 hours of finding out mom was pregnant. They were 100% sure their first child was going to be a boy. The parent debated a girl name the whole time. Thankfully they only had one girl, so they got to use the surplus of boy names instead of arguing over girl names again.
My Mom liked to tell the story about choosing baby names when she was pregnant with me. She told her canasta group from St. Matthew’s that, if the baby was a boy, they had decided on ‘John’. One of the group, Mrs. Farkas, didn’t like that idea, saying, “Oh, don’t name him ‘John’! Every Tom, Dick and Harry is named ‘John’!”
Mom always said she regretted not submitting that one to Reader’s Digest.
And, for the record, when I was born all of the following were named ‘John’:
The President
The Pope
Our parish priest
The doctor who delivered me
..so Mrs. Farkas kinda had a point.
Oddly worded question on the Dem primary ballot:
“Should Georgia pull down our federal tax dollars to save rural hospitals and create more than fifty thousand jobs by expanding Medicaid?”
Def awkward- in an attempt to avoid words like “matching” or to appear as just new spending. But does the DPG not really know the % of Dems who support Medicaid expansion?
It’s a Dem version of wording of Georgia Constitutional Amendments we’re so fond of.
Emulating Republicans maybe explains why Dem views are majority views, but the party is in the minority.

Never was a real Brokaw fan. I prefered Jennings. Everybody loved Walter. But, I believe Brokaw…

Cronkite was a… what’s the word… libtard?
But, as I have maintained, he was a professional and was able to separate his personal beliefs from his work (mostly).
“I thought that some day the roof was going to fall in … I don’t know why to this day I got away with it,” Cronkite is quoted as saying years later. But he often gave himself deniability with linguistic hedging. Cronkite once told me his liberalism “affected how I looked at the world” but not his reporting.

Alex Jones yet again? Not that your links had any credibility to lose but for the love of Pete please realize that tripe is only useful to trolls, Russian and otherwise.
Ummmm, William, it’s an editorial cartoon. A damn funny one at that! And on top of that, it’s true! Just like everything I’ve ever posted on here. Might not be what you wanna hear but true nonetheless.
Trump is taking credit for Korean rapprochement. Some credit may be due.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/as-two-koreas-talk-peace-trump’s-bargaining-chips-slip-away/ar-AAwtfcN?ocid=spartanntp
“A resumption of regular diplomatic exchanges between the two Koreas, analysts said, will inevitably erode the crippling economic sanctions against the North, while Mr. Trump will find it hard to threaten military action against a country that is extending an olive branch.”
“He [Trump] hyped this meeting with his tweets, and now the entire focus is going to be on his negotiating prowess.”
“Mr. Trump reiterated that he was prepared to cancel the meeting, or walk out in the middle of it, if his diplomatic efforts were not making any headway. ”
“Mr. Trump is also moving on other fronts that could undercut his negotiations with Mr. Kim. He appears more likely than ever to rip up the Iran nuclear deal as he faces his next deadline of May 12 to decide whether to reimpose sanctions on Tehran. Walking away from one nuclear disarmament deal while trying to strike another would be a trick, even for a self-proclaimed dealmaker like Mr. Trump.”
“[Kim’s] gotten all these meetings with world leaders without making any concessions,” said Jung H. Pak, a former C.I.A. analyst who is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Center for East Asia Policy Studies. “So far, everything has been no-cost for Kim.”
Some folks are upset about the Memorial to victims of lynching: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/lynching-memorial-leaves-some-quietly-seething-let-sleeping-dogs-lie/ar-AAwsi6f?ocid=spartanntp
“They have every right to have the memorial, if it’s true.”
Despite documentation of about 4,000 lynchings, “They were not the norm.”
Of course they weren’t! Lynchings happened to “them”, and it’s probably fake news anyway.
facetiously: Why can’t they build something dignified. That we can all be proud of. You know, like a statue of military guy on a horse that owned slaves and nobly fought for the right to do so, and erect one at nearly every courthouse in the state?
