“We are in an era where somebody like [Pompeo], who is qualified, unfortunately , is likely to be voted out without a recommendation or with a negative recommendation. It’s just sad our nation has devolved politically to this point.” — Bob Corker, R-TN

Cry me a river, Bob. Why weren’t you sad when Merrick Garland wasn’t even given a hearing?

Democratic Senators Joe Manchin D-WV, Joe Donnelly D-IN, and Heidi Heitkamp D-ND indicated they will be voting for Pompeo on the floor. It’s only devolution when every Republican isn’t a party hack.

“The Trump administration is succeeding wildly at one thing: sowing utter confusion about its foreign policy. Perhaps “foreign policy” is the wrong term. “International lurchings” might be more apt. Allies and adversaries alike are having to learn which pronouncements to take seriously, which to ignore and which are likely to be countermanded by presidential tweet.” — Eugene Robinson: An impulsive President of low character and intelligence, incompetent at vetting people (Ronny Jackson is this week’s example) other than as sycophants, and hungry for his next ego fix, says he’s planning to meet with the brutal North Korean dictator. A connection between Deal and Reed is in better focus with the information that Reed dispensed $400,000+ in gratuities to high ranking staff and his bodyguards on his way out the door: taking care of cronies.

It was disreputable that Stan Wise resigned from the PSC after voting to double Georgia Power’s profits on Vogtle. But hey, it permitted Deal to set Tricia Pridemore up with a six figure state salary. It what’s the GaGOP calls “good government”.

Interesting story:
The Fighting Has Begun Over Who Owns Land Drowned by Climate Change
“As seas rise and coasts wash away, who owns the land that goes underwater? Versions of that debate are taking place in courtrooms, legislatures, and government offices, raising the question of whether and when climate change justifies seizing private property. The stakes are enormous, affecting not just ownership of offshore mineral and fishing rights but also potentially trillions of dollars of coastal real estate.”

Maybe deepening the Savannah River was a waste of money. We could have just waited a bit!

“The mob takes the Fifth. If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?” Donald Trump at an Iowa campaign rally last fall.

“Based upon the advice of counsel, I will assert my 5th amendment rights in connection with all proceedings in this [Stormy Daniels] case due to the ongoing criminal investigation by the FBI and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.” Donald Trump’s mob lawyer Michael Cohen earlier today.

Trump’s nominee to head the VA seems to be loose in dispensing drugs, nasty, and a drunk.

But he’s a white US citizen and not a Mexican, so he’s got that going for him.
