Things Getting Interesting* in Atlanta Bribery Scandal

The rumors and whispers that have been circulating in Atlanta political circles for more than a year are coming true.

From the AJC:  “Prosecutors charged the Rev. Mitzi Bickers, a longtime political operative and former aide to former Mayor Kasim Reed, with conspiracy to commit bribery to obtain city contracts for two contractors, along with money laundering and filing fake tax returns. The bribes totalled more than $2 million, prosecutors said.”

Two city contractors E. R. Mitchell Jr. and Charles P. Richards, Jr., as well as Atlanta’s former chief procurement officer Adam Smith, have already pleaded guilty and are cooperating with the Feds.

Rev. Bickers is now a chaplain for the Clayton County Sheriff’s office, and apparently mixed up her personal and county emails in response to a request from the AJC.

“*Interesting” in the sense of the ancient curse: “May you live in interesting times.”
