Morning Reads for LD 39 (Tuesday, March 27)

Good morning! Governor Zell Miller returns to the Capitol today to lie in repose.

  • We need Carrie Mathison.
    • Meanwhile, the WiFi at ATL is still down. Because that is such awesome, fast, reliable WiFi, it is surely missed by all who travel through the airport.
  • Linda Brown – her father was the Brown in Brown v Board of Education – died yesterday.
  • A compelling case for why conservatives should take Millennials seriously.
    • Demographically and politically, conservatives are in a battle for the hearts and minds of these kids—and so far, conservatives are losing. You don’t have to agree with the marchers’ admittedly uninformed stance on guns or their naive embrace of their own celebrity status to acknowledge their accomplishment. Their willingness to drop everything and organize this march and advocate for greater youth participation in politics might or might not lead to action at the polls come November. But ignoring their rallying cry for civic engagement—or worse, condemning it—risks encouraging the kind of cynicism and apathy that conservatives have long argued is one of the greatest threats to democracy.
  • Somebody’s gotta say it: if you shared or liked that doctored photo of Emma Gonzalez, you are a dummy, and I bet your Facebook password is something like “password.”
  • Cobb County schools are planning for a drop in enrollment.
    • A few items of interest: yes, Smyrna and Mableton continue to outpace the rest of the county with growth. And yes, maybe there should be a discussion about eventually sunsetting the senior school tax exemption so other parts of the county don’t turn into Del Boca Vista.
  • If you’re bacteria, drugs are bad, mmmmkay?
