An 800 Pound Gorilla to Qualify for Peake’s House Seat

A day after Rep. Allen Peake announced he would not be seeking re-election for State House District 141, Shane Mobley has issued a release stating that he has chosen to run for that seat instead of qualifying for State Insurance Commissioner. Qualifying will take place between March 5-9 for the May 22nd primaries.

The press release:

“Over the past six months, I’ve built support all across Georgia for my goal to reform the Insurance Commissioner’s office, and learned that I would need action from the State Legislature to make those reforms happen,” Mobley said. “With Rep. Peake’s decision to not seek re-election, the path to achieving that goal has become clearer and easier, and I will qualify to run for the State House of Representatives.”

Mobley, who had over $240,000 cash on hand in his Insurance Commissioner campaign account, intends to repurpose those funds to run for State House.

“My team and my supporters are on board with this decision, and every resource I have will be focused like a laser on running a successful campaign for State House District 141,” Mobley said. “While I would have been a strong contender for Insurance Commissioner, I’m going to be an 800-lb gorilla in the contest for State House.”

Mobley added: “I have had enormous respect for Allen Peake, and have known him since I was a teenager. I will continue to pursue his goal of making it easier for Georgia’s children who suffer from seizure disorders to obtain effective and legal medical treatments, including cannabis oil. I’ve seen it work in my own clinics, and there’s no reason to make those children suffer and struggle with red tape and outdated laws. As a State Representative, I will fight to ease their lives and the lives of everyone in Georgia.”

Mobley, 46, has been a healthcare provider for 20 years, and currently has 21 clinics in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi, specializing in the treatment of adults and children for sleep and seizure disorders. He and his wife Amy live in Macon and are rasing two children, Jacob, a sophomore in high school, and Mikayla, who is in her third year at the University of Georgia.
