News by the Numbers

  • 16-year-old voting machines – The race to succeed Governor Deal involves taxes, monuments, and now voting machines! According to Cagle, they’re outdated and unsafe. According to Kemp, any opposition to his outdated and unsafe voting machines is a left-wing conspiracy. Cheers!
  • 27-year-old bridge – Imagine if the Eugene Talmadge bridge wasn’t named after him. If one Republican has his way, the bridge will be named after the founder of the Girl Scouts. The difference between “name” and “rename” is important.
  • 13 counties – Representative Tanner and Senator Beach are advocating for a regional transit board that would work to expand light rail into its 13 county region. It would be called “The ATL”
  • 27 million users – A heat map released by Strava shows tracks used by people with common GPS tracking devices such as FitBit. It was neat until America’s secret military bases were exposed.
  • $400 million – The Koch brothers hosted 550 politicians, donors, and activist leaders to their annual retreat to discuss the 2018 midterms. Among their big plans: Spend $400 million to protect Republicans in Congress.
  • 10 million barrels a day – This year, the United States is expected to surpass Saudi Arabia and rival Russia in world oil production. While this has little to do with Washington and more to do with private companies, President Trump’s plan to loosen regulations on oil companies and expand off shore drilling will help.
