Ossoff: I Was For Debating Handel As Much As Possible Before I Was Against It
That’s the question to ask now that he’s ducking a tete-a-tete with Handel. Ossoff won’t agree to participate in the Atlanta Press Club debate, scheduled to be broadcast on CNN. (Really, dude? EVERYONE does the Press Club debates…maybe you’ve forgotten that in D.C.).
You, dear reader, will recall that Ossoff proposed six debates with Handel. For some reason, the venerable APC series was deemed beneath Ossoff. (Spare me the tripe of wanting only debates moderated by “the metro Atlanta press corps”).
This also follows a barrage of attacks from Ossoff acolytes against Handel for not agreeing to the upstart Democrat’s first debate proposal.
At the end of the day, Ossoff now is afraid of debating Handel; plain and simple.

Not blaming anyone for not wanting to be stuck between shouting matches from Jeffrey Lord and Van Jones. Besides, CNN’s ratings desperation for hypeable live debate content the year after a Presidential election (like the Bernie Sanders stages all his fantasy 2016 Presidential Debates! series) is a complete joke.
This is seriously one of the stupider posts I’ve seen on this site.
Show me one time ever that a House election has held national debates on a major news network. Hint: None. This is a local race that will be decided by 6th District voters. Throwing it up on a national stage doesn’t benefit the people of the 6th in any way. Ossoff is right to reject this kind of national showboating and to keep things local and focused.
As far as him being “afraid” to debate Handel, she’s the one who has turned down multiple opportunities for public debate in the District where the actual voters live. It sounds to me like she’s afraid to face local voters and wants to debate from the “safety” of a national broadcast where she doesn’t have to be in front of the people she wants to represent.

And that national stage you’re railing on? It’s in Atlanta. And a platform for the most venerable debate series in Georgia. As I said: the one debate no one skips.

This is one of the most substance-free posts I’ve seen on GeorgiaPol. I get that Harper is working for Handel, but does this website really need to become another mouthpiece for her campaign?

Ed, this one is a little bit of a stretch. Half of the attacks against Ossoff are about how he is out of touch with the district and pulling support from the national stage and not locally. Now he is getting lambasted for wanting to keep things local?
Anyway, as far as im concerned, either of them will be an improvement over Price.

In April, The Ossoff campaign suggested 6 debate dates. No response from The Handel campaign until 2 weeks ago when they suggested 2 other dates. 2 weeks until the election and Ossoff is ‘afraid’ to debate Handel?
What about the Dunwoody HOA meeting that Handel backed out of at the last minute since it was open to the public? Ossoff was there and took questions from the attendees.
What about the ‘Souls to the Polls’ event last Friday that Handel backed out at the last minute due to a ‘scheduling conflict’. Ossoff was there and took questions from the attendees on the fly (not pre-prepared).

When we reach the point of arguing which candidate is more scared, the trollers have won. Right, Ed?
This has been overblown by both sides. These debates likely won’t have much of an effect on the contest, unless one of them says something monumentally stupid. Which won’t happen because both candidates know how to pivot. Also not wanting to be on CNN is perfectly rational for a candidate who already has the momentum, and we shouldn’t be surprised Handel’s people are dishing out what they had to take earlier. Both are good politics to me.
Still, this is a stupid post for GeorgiaPol, the only point is to talk crap about Ossoff, which is disappointing because I usually get something out of edAtlanta’s posts even if I often don’t agree.

This whole thread is pretty amusing, especially with the elephant (or is that donkey?) in the room being that he cannot even vote for himself in the 6th! Some things may technically be not illegal, but they’re still unethical. Like running for office to speak for people where you don’t live. (Oh, but if you’ll elect me, I’ll think about moving into the district….) It does not speak well for Ossoff or what kind of cheesy decisions he would make if elected.
David Scott lives in the 5th district and has represented the 13th since 2003. He’s won re-election 7 times and hasn’t even voted for himself ONCE.
Gong! Scott served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1974 to 1982 and in the Georgia State Senate from 1982 to 2002. 28 years of legislative experience prior to being elected to Congress. Hardly the boy-man currently under discussion. The 13th was created in 2002 and first election held that November, took his seat in DC in January 2003. As a State Senator, Scott helped draw the lines and he lived inside its original snake-like boundaries, was elected that fall, has held the seat ever since.
During these 14 years the 13th CD has been redrawn two times and now looks nothing like it did originally (thank God). I’m not sure, but believe he still owns his original home. Whatever the case, zero experience boy-man Ossoff is definitely NO Congressman David Scott.

Handel’s decision to not debate when she was ahead was a political decision, just as is Ossoff’s declining the CNN debate. The national money has been good, but Ossoff’s campaign has been avoiding mention of Trump. The Handel campaign, or at least some outside supporters, think tying the race to Washington politics is good for Handel. Hence Ossoff declining a national CNN debate.
There being at least two debates now scheduled and the election two weeks away, one candidate or the other rejecting other debates won’t get much if any traction with undecided voters.
