Could Atlanta Get It’s Own DOT?

On Tuesday, the Atlanta City Council approved a resolution to create a feasibility study that will determine if Atlanta should have its own Department of Transportation.

As it currently stands, transportation infrastructure planning is “coordinated” through a veritable mishmash of agencies.

The results of the study will be released no later than June 30.

The Northside Neighbor quotes a release from Councilmember Andre Dickens, who sponsored the resolution, saying:

“After decades of traffic, mobility and connectivity being some of Atlanta’s top issues, I thought an Atlanta DOT would be a comprehensive way in which to provide a coordinated approach to making a difference in how we all move around the city we love. Currently, the city’s transportation needs are not clearly consolidated under any single department of the city.”
