The Gainesville Times and accessWDUN have both reported that Ashley Bell, an attorney from Gainesville, GA (Hall County), was sworn in Monday as a Special Assistant to U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. He is an emergency appointment that will serve up to 120 days, though President Donald Trump can reappoint him at the conclusion of the period. Bell will work in the area of public affairs to ensure the President’s message on foreign policy is clearly shared with U.S. citizens and the world.
Bell is a former Hall County Commissioner who was elected as a Democrat before switching to the Republican Party in 2010. Bell previously served on Trump’s transition team assisting in the recruitment of staff for the State Department. He was named as the top strategist and national director of African-American political engagement for the Republican National Convention during the summer.
