Morning Reads on January 11

I can’t believe it took me until today to figure out the source of that stench from Downtown Atlanta. (I am making a joke at the Legislature’s expense–feel free to laugh in the comments).

“I Need a Roof” by Sugar Minott.

  1. How will the area surrounding GSU Stadium look in the future?
  2. The Eggs & Issues meeting was heavy on waistlines, thin on issue.
  3. Connecting the Silver Comet Trail and the Beltline–a Grand Dream
  4. On the Conflicting Perceptions of South Downtown or: What a Wasted Opportunity
  5. “Pity the Sad Legacy of Barack Obama”
  6. Apparently an Emory professor chose the Russian word of the year for 2016.
  7. Jeremy Clarkson thinks Hartsfield is the world’s worst airport? Then let’s ban him from the city!
  8. (That certainly wouldn’t provoke him or anything).

It’s not unexpected, what with the massive establishment GOP suck up to Trump, that release of his tax returns is inconsequential. The failure to release those returns is increasing suspicion the returns contain untoward information with news that there is intelligence that the Russians may have untoward information on Trump. Trump surrogates will stick to the talking point that Russian interference in the election didn’t influence the election results because the unclassified and classified reports didn’t state that the interference did influence the results. Rube news flash. The subject of the what the interference had on election results wasn’t a… Read more »

“…news that there is intelligence that the Russians may have untoward information on Trump.” ‘News’? Defined by CNN and Buzzfeed as ‘any information no matter lack of reliable sources that gets eyeballs to our failing enterprises.’

Rube newsflash – MSNBC just reported based on a reliable source that the story is total BS. MSNBC, not FOX. Trump was not presented with the addendum because it was nothing more than an example of fake news included by intelligence folks with the report to show difference between fake and real intelligence.

He said rube.

The intelligence pros briefed Trump on the report’s contents. That’s news.

Where’s the link to MSNBC?

On MSNBC now, Cynthia McFadden reporting.

“Trump not briefed on dossier containing unsubstantiated Russia claims”

Hmmm…is it more shocking that MSNBC is reporting it or that Bart is watching MSNBC…jury is still out on that.

Whether this particular document is fake or not, there are some dots that bear scrutiny to see if they are connected: Paul Manafort—>Russian email hacks—>Trump’s lack of tax return disclosure—> Tillerson/Putin.

I am reminded of the Dan Rather story where he used a falsified document in a story, but the substance of the story is most likely true anyway.

I love this story though. A good conspiracy- spies, secret meetings with Russians in Prague, parties in Moscow, possible salacious details… this is much better than birth certificate research.

“Eggs and issues” perhaps it should be called problems and pancakes or bacon and bull.

The Obama legacy also includes:
43 million food stampers
Over 74 million on Medicaid and CHIP, (17 million added between 2013 and 2016)
Over 1600 of our troops killed in Afghanistan
Four dead in Benghazi
Violence and crime in minority communities including over 700 murders in Chicago
Unknown numbers of workers out of the work force
Insufficient effort to stop illegal immigration

Apparently Mr. Clarkson has never been through the Kansas City Airport.

…or better yet LaGuardia???? I find ATL to be fairly easy to navigate. My only problem is that if you are on a domestic flight that continues on to an international destination. I was on an RSW-ATL flight that continued on to Panama City, Panama. It came in to the F concourse. It is a royal pain to go from F to domestic baggage claim. That is really the only major problem I’ve ever run into that could be avoided.

Last night – really ?

Obamas 8 years saw the lowest economic growth in history but the highs were:

National debt
Poverty levels
People on food stamps
People not in the job market
Health insurance costs
Government program fraud
Illegal immigration
Income spread
Riots
Mass shootings
Terrorist attacks
56% increase in police shot over 2015, 21 were ambushed.

Obama the dissembler.

ScottNAtlanta

REALLY??? We were losing 700,000 jobs per month when Obama took office. We were headed for depression 2.0. Thats Bush whether you care to remeber that little fact or not…its still a fact. That fact thus knocks out the arguments on Poverty levels People on food stamps Also, I know you are old enough to remeber what insurance was like pre-ACA. Costs were rising at a MUCH faster rate than they are now…If you could even GET INSURANCE!!! As for the wave of Mexicans coming across the border…that is drastically down. Our economy tanked in 2008. Why would they want… Read more »

How anyone on any side of any aisle can find pride in that press conference I just will not be able to understand.

I’m glad Trump is making it easier for foreign governments to bribe him.

Now, getting to what I really wanted to comment on… The Silver Comet Trail connecting to the Beltline is a great idea, especially since the tracks are all now abandoned. My question would be, how much government subsidy went to CSX or companies acquired over the years to build those tracks and does CSX own the land or just hold ROW? I’d say the threat of eminent domain would certainly be a powerful tool to get them to the negotiating table. The tracks have been removed on much of the property so there is no plan to add rail lines… Read more »

As someone who used to do gov’t ethics law, his “plan” is a joke. To borrow a phrase that Trump would probably find arousing, he’s trying to pee on our legs and tell us it’s raining.
