No Change Predicted In GA Congressional Representation
The Census Bureau released it’s predictions for the 2020 census on Monday and even with Georgia’s population growth, we will not gain a congressional district.
In total, seven states will gain seats and 10 are predicted to lose a congressional district.
Georgia is predicted to remain the eighth-most populous state in the nation with 10,617,423 Peaches. Our fair state had the fifth-highest figure for numeric growth at 106,292 people.
However, not all is good news. Georgia, like 41 other states and Washington D.C., experienced fewer births from 2018 to 2019.
Dr. Sandra Johnson, a demographer/statistician in the Population Division of the Census Bureau said:
While natural increase is the biggest contributor to the U.S. population increase, it has been slowing over the last five years. Natural increase, or when the number of births is greater than the number of deaths, dropped below 1 million in 2019 for the first time in decades.
And the Boomers aren’t getting any younger or more numerous so the overall outlook isn’t so great.
The nation’s population was 328,239,523 in 2019, growing by 0.5% between 2018 and 2019, or 1,552,022 people.

Georgia is currently 8th in population—we’re about 1,000,000 behind Ohio. I think it likely Georgia remains the 8th most populous in the 2020 census. Ninth place NC is about 150,000 less than Georgia, about the same difference as in 2010.
