GAE President Sid Chapman Files for State School Superintendent Race
Sid Chapman, President of the Georgia Association of Educators, has filed paperwork to run as a Democrat for State School Superintendent. The information was verified at the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission’s website after Greg Bluestein at the AJC sent out a tweet earlier this afternoon.
Chapman was a strong opponent against last year’s Opportunity School District Amendment. He also pushed for a change in this year’s First Priority Act which would have a Chief Turnaround Officer report to the State Board of Education. Chapman wanted the Officer to instead report directly to the State School Superintendent, stating: “The state school superintendent is elected by the people. And he has no one else in that whole department who doesn’t report to him.”
