Cook County Relief Efforts Underway

Much of over coverage here of current storms has been on Albany. They were already reeling from storms on January 2nd that left 32 square miles of damage before the additional tornado this weekend brought even more damage and death to their community.

Cook County Georgia took a big hit as well, in and around the town of Adel. Our friend and Probate Judge Chase Daughtrey sends along the following. The deaths that occurred in Adel were not from wealthy folks. The community is asking for support to properly bury their dead:

There has been such an outpouring of support and generosity as Cook County and our residents deal with the impact of the worst natural disaster in history to hit our community. While the devastation has been stunning, we have been lifted by the prayers and generosity of so many from around the state.

Your support has been critical as we continue the difficult clean-up efforts and long road to recovery.

But worse than the destruction of property and land is the loss of seven members of our community who died in the storm. Their families are devastated — our community is shaken.

Cook County has been asked to provide financial assistance to help these families as they lay their loved ones to rest.

A special website has been set up on behalf of the Adel United Methodist Church to receive donations to help the families with the funeral services.
