Who Is The Embarrassment Again?
Millions of women held a March on Washington all over the world Saturday, even in exotic, faraway places like Antarctica and Augusta, Georgia. The marches were nominally about womens’ rights, but supporters of any gender or cause were welcome to share the camaraderie and unity of opposing the Trump presidency and making the world a more just and safe place, except for pro-life women, who were disinvited.
The Womens’ Marches On Washington were held to “…send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights,” and a laundry list of grievances real and imagined. Gloria Steinem was there. Madonna said some stupid things. But not everyone was pleased. Our own Jessica Syzlagi, for instance, described it as partisan and anti-Trump, and wrote that while “Many women marched Saturday, but many weren’t marching for me.”
One who did march, though, was Amanda Stone of Augusta, whose motive was reported by the AJC: “I understand that many women did not feel that the Women’s March represented them but I encourage you to read the Mission and Vision Statement of the Women’s March so that you will at least understand why so many women worldwide marched yesterday. There were so many various reasons why people marched yesterday, I am almost certain that you could have found some common ground with the marchers. And, let me say again….Love Thy Neighbor.”
Straightforward stuff, and not hard to understand. Ms. Stone, like every other woman in America, has an absolute right to protest, march, and otherwise speak her mind.
But former TEA party activist and Trump supporter Debbie Dooley would like to punish Ms. Stone’s husband because his wife spoke her mind. Ms. Stone’s husband, State Senator Jesse Stone, is a Republican and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He should step down, in order to prevent “…the left from using his wife’s activity to cause embarrassment to the GOP or undermine the advancement of Republican principles.”
She’s right to be concerned. Republican principles stopped advancing in Cleveland last July, and we’ve suffered a series of embarrassments ever since. The most embarrassing part isn’t so much our party’s nominee himself, but his lickspittle supporters scared that a President Trump has been undermined by a bunch of women wearing vagina hats.
Like it or not, President Trump or not, this is still America and our Constitution still has a First Amendment. That does not embarrass any real Republicans in the party, whatever remains of it.

Women jumped on that pissed off bandwagon like we did on the startup tea party for fiscal responsibility and a smaller government. Then we discovered a thousand points of light agenda that was directionless.
For the DC organizers: Hidden agendas. Google the organizers and we find keywords – progressive, Palestinian Muslim activist, Hamas, gun control advocate, Obama advisors, Sanders supporters, George Soros……it’s like joining a march for children’s right organized by the league of sweatshops. A drink the cool aid moment.
Bologna. You don’t believe any of those alternative facts but felt the need to vomit talking points.
One million women told Trump no. It’s killing him. Sent out attack dogs to lie and spit crap. The country is laughing at him and it’s killing him. The press is on guard. The CIA is now his permanent enemy.
Way to start an administration.
Yes these women have a right to protest and they even have the right to burn the US flag so long as they don’t endanger other people or property. But to wear vagina costumes, intentionally throw trash on others property, threaten to blow up the White House, intentionally start fires, and use all forms of vulgarity that you would not want your children to see or hear crossed the line. It seriously crossed the line. It should embarrass anyone of any political creed. I do not recall any such “Protest” i.e. riots when Obama was sworn in. I find their grievances hypocritical since they don’t seem to have a problem with woman’s conditions in the Middle East. When have they ever protested at any of these countries embassies?
So are they an embarrassment? Yes they are…….
Not one arrest. So cool it with the reports of fires and riots-didn’t happen.
The march left its protest signs at Trump’s (iilegal) hotel.
1 million people said no. And you point out a few bad apples. Bigly sad.
You make a very funny post. You can’t distinguish between the hundreds of thousands of wives, mothers, and daughters who were peaceably assembling and the few who were vandalizing, but you get bent that they ignored ME conditions. Which act is really shameful?
If women were protesting against ‘woman’s conditions in the Middle East’ they would be accused of not caring about issues in America.
The isolated soundbites you mention do not even scratch the surface of the concerns of this March. Is it OK for Trump to trash talk groping genitalia? Does that not cross the same line? Yet women can’t counter with ‘Can’t touch This’ while wearing kitty hats?
There were no “Protest” RIOTS Saturday. There were fewer violent confrontations across the entire country Saturday than even one Trump campaign rally. Responding to vulgarity and disrespect by throwing the issues back at the offenders is a response to the hypocrisy.
Yes, there will always be a few people cross the line. But, that doesn’t mean we should shut down the marches or shout down the people who participate in them. Also, perhaps you’ve forgotten all the times Obama was burned in effigy. You’ve probably also forgotten the young women who carved a B into her own face and falsely claimed it was an Obama supporter.
And just because I’ve never protested the Saudi Arabia embassy doesn’t mean I shouldn’t air grievances against my own government. Have you ever protested the Saudi Arabia embassy? If not, perhaps you should start today.
“Not one arrest. So cool it with the reports of fires and riots-didn’t happen.”
This must be Fake News.

BTW there is a Limo for sale cheap and lots of work for glass installers…
Please read for comprehension. The limo fire/glass breaking was the day of the inauguration and had nothing to do with the march on the NEXT day.
Good try though. Not #SpicerFact level but a good try.
Ironic that a long term embarrassment to the GOP is still considered a reliable judge of what embarrasses the GOP.
+1
“women’s rights are human rights.”
Which are?
Thanks Mike, for showing the contrasting statements at the end.
I find it bizarre that Debbie Dooley feels compelled to demonize people’s opinions by lumping them together in the pejorative ‘liberal’ category. Can’t people have their own opinions with instantly being associated as (In your opinion) a member of a bad group? Label+Discredit=End of discussion.
Can’t people individually say what they want in government? Do you really believe an elected official’s wife has no first amendment rights or the right to express any opinion contrary to her husband? Is it really more important to stand by GOP and Republican principles (whatever those truly are) than to hear from the individuals, and non-subservient wives, of this country?
I’m as guilty as the rest of you in ignoring that Hassinger’s post takes on the Dooley for crabbing at Jesse Stone for the sin of having a wife who decides what she wants to do. Good for Mike. DD needs to be called out for her ignorant and fact-free statements just like everyone else, even real Republicans, especially those who expect total allegiance.
Once upon a time, Debbie Dooley and I were sitting in the basement of the state capitol on sine die, watching as a bill to criminalize certain kinds of public protest went up in flames.
This was 2012, as the Occupy movement was flaming out. The unlamented former State Sen. Don Balfour (R-Madagascar) had proposed SB 469, a law that on its face would have prohibited mass picketing in front of residences. In the details, however, were provisions for $10,000 fines and the power to slaughter union organizing in this state.
Dooley brought in the Tea Party to fight it, because the anti-protest provisions would — among other things — apply to whatever her group would have been doing. Debbie Dooley and Joseph Lowrey, together at the IBEW union hall, scheming to protect the right to protest.
And now she’s going full Orwell. Because her guy is in the White House.
Adversity is no test of character. Give someone a little power, then watch.
So…. Debbie IS or IS NOT for the First Amendment? Confused.
Should her family members have been made to resign their jobs when she was protesting and embarrassing people?
Strong men are comfortable with strong women. Good on Rep. Stone. I hope his response is a strong, silent middle finger.
I encourage Debbie, and everyone really, to read about Mary Katharine Ham and her late husband, Jake Brewer.

You could also read about Mary Matalin and James Carville if you like. Although, considering Matalin left the GOP over Debbie’s guy, that will probably be received less well.
