We are starting to get reactions from Georgia’s representatives in the U.S. House and Senat over President Elect Donald Trump’s upset win Tuesday night over Hillary Clinton.
Senator Johnny Isakson:
I congratulate Donald Trump and Mike Pence on winning a hard-fought campaign.
The genius of America is that the real power always rests with the voters, and America’s voters sent a clear message last night. They want our military to receive better support. They want us to defeat the Islamic State and not allow terror to gain a stronghold on our lives. They want us to stand up for our veterans as our veterans have stood up for all of us.
Voters also sent the message that they will no longer tolerate the onslaught of onerous government regulation and red tape placed upon hardworking Americans and job-creators.
We must promote a level playing field and institute commonsense, pro-job growth solutions. I can also promise that I will continue working to ensure that Georgia’s ports are ready to ship American goods wherever they are needed.
This campaign has felt similar to the movement in 1980 when President Ronald Reagan was elected. I look forward to our Republican-elected Congress going to work with President Trump to advance the ideals that made our American democracy great.
I am ready to work with the president and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get the best results for Georgia and America.
Senator David Perdue:
Tonight, the American people sent a strong message, and it is past time for Washington to listen. We had a clear choice this election between an outsider, businessman who is committed to restoring American greatness and a dishonest career politician who has failed to help the very people she claimed to champion. Americans wisely chose to elect Donald Trump as our next President and Mike Pence as our next Vice President.
In 2014, Georgians sent a similar message by sending me to the United States Senate to help change the direction of our country. As a fellow outsider, I hope the political class in Washington will learn the right lessons from this latest election. There is a growing movement of people who are more motivated by their frustration with the lack of results coming from Washington than their own political ideology. For too long, Congress has continued to fund an oversized federal government that is out-of-touch with reality. Politicians continue to say and do anything to get elected, but then fail to follow through on delivering results.
Now is the time to change the way Washington does business and finally focus on delivering real results. We need to come together to tackle our country’s debt crisis, protect our homeland, grow the economy, and address the rising costs of health care. With new leadership in the White House and cooperation from both political parties in Congress, all of this can be achieved within the parameters outlined in our Constitution. I look forward to working closely with President Trump and Vice President Pence to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to once again achieve the American Dream.
First District Representative Buddy Carter:
This is a new and exciting day for America! After eight years which have been nothing short of a disaster led by President Obama and democrats, we now have the opportunity to turn to a new page in our history. Americans are frustrated, just as I have been since the first day I arrived in Washington, and I am excited to join Donald Trump to deliver a brighter future for our nation.
I look forward to working with Donald Trump to deliver true conservative results for the First District of Georgia, as well as the entire nation. We must repeal Obamacare and deliver a market based health care system that provides more choices with less costs. We must face radical Islamic terrorism head on and destroy it. We must get the government out of the way of our job creators. We must deliver an all of the above energy strategy. Together, we will tackle these challenges and many more. Now, let’s get to work!
Sixth District Representative Tom Price:
Today, the American people voted for a positive change and a brighter future by electing Donald J. Trump as president and Mike Pence as vice president. I am excited to work with the new Trump/Pence Administration to move our great nation forward and to secure economic prosperity and security for our children and grandchildren. We’ll work together to strengthen America at home and abroad, to grow jobs, wages and the broader economy, and to get government out of the way so individuals, families, and small businesses will have more opportunity. This victory means we can have a Supreme Court that will uphold the Constitution. The American people have spoken, and they want to chart a new course to Make America Great Again.
