Morning Reads for Friday, February 12, 2016
On this day in 1733 James Oglethorpe climbed up the bluff from the Savannah River and founded the colony of our favorite place in the world, Georgia.

- New, not quite hired, Fulton County BoE Super tarnished already? That didn’t take long.

Cruz is being accused of more dirty tricks, will this help him in SC or backfire?

McCain being smeared in SC in 2000 didn’t seem to damage the Bush campaign.
The NATS connection to yesterday’s LIGO announcement, including Professor Laura Cadonati, who chairs LIGO’s Data Analysis Council.
Professor Cadonati will be giving an update on LIGO and the findings Monday, February 15, at 3:00 in Lecture 1 in the Howey Physics Bldg on the GT campus. Gotta be better than the Calc lectures I sat thru there.
Shudders at the memories of all the calc courses I took that met in that exact room in Howey Physics. Not the most pleasant of memories. Calc 1 through 3 AND Diff Eqs were all in there. Registration gods hated me.
The Wall Street issue is driving the Trump and Sanders campaign ie trust message. Polling shows Trump and Sanders winning the trust issue with voters overwhelmingly. How can Bush/Rubio/Kasich or Hillary win with this on their neck? They were hoping to run against each others and this issue would go away. The only other candidate with clean hands on this issue is Carson, he may be to far behind. I would not be surprised to see a Trump verse Sanders campaign in general. Trump will be our next president, what am I missing?

“I would not be surprised to see a Trump verse Sanders campaign in general. Trump will be our next president, what am I missing?” I’m not saying that won’t happen I just don’t think you can underestimate the Clintons. They have already allowed one nomination slip through their hands who knows what they will do to win this time. She will do really well in South Carolina and in some backwards world because of super delegates Clinton is winning 394-44 in the delegate race.
I’ll say it again about Trump. Even against Hillary he cannot afford to lose women voters by larger margin that Romney. He’s on track to do just that. I also think that large numbers evangelicals stay at home in November if Trump is the nominee. We will see what happens, but I would prefer a real republican at the top of our ticket.
And that’s another issue. Trump at the top of the ticket harms our hopes of protecting important senate seats. We are already going to probably lose two if not three of these senate seats. WI, IL, NH. Kelly Ayotte may be our best shot not to lose all three. FL is up in the air but we should be able to hold on to it. Nevada should be a republican seat but with Trump at the top who knows. OH, PA and NC should be okay. Those are going to be tough races and if we lose OH and NC who cares because that means we have Hillary as president. I could see us dropping Toomey in PA.
All this to say, there is more on the line than having an entertaining summer and fall with trump calling people vulgar names. If we lose the senate we will just have the same thing we have had for the past eight years. Gridlock. And that means you have zero chance of having anyone fix entitlements.
Then again, if Trump becomes president is gridlock such a bad thing?
Yes, because if people thought Obama was a dictator and chief then President Trump will be 100 times worse. If you look through all of his speeches he never says “I will work with congress to do …..” That’s because he looks at congress as a bunch of losers (I’m not going to argue with that because there are a lot of them that are) and I honestly believe that trump has not clue how a law is actually made. He’s running to be dictator not president. Just imagine all of the Trump executive orders. What we need is a president that will give back to congress it’s authority. Not an ass that will expand the role of the presidency more than Obama already has.
I’m not disagreeing with your assessment of Trump as prez. I’m saying that if he does wind up there then I’m thankful we have Congress (particularly if it goes D) and the Supreme Court to try and keep him in check, executive orders notwithstanding.
Saw part of Hilly/Burnie debate. Old Burnie continues to talk Wall Street speculators, rigged economy, top one % or was it was it top tenth of top one % (not sure). He still could not give the cost of his health care plan (one trillion). At least Hilly was able to price her plan (100 billion). Both want more social security and higher taxes.
On foreign policy weird old Burnie talked about Henry Kissinger. Both talked of the infamous “coalition” in the Middle East. There was also a lot of pandering to black voters.
If I had to pick a winner, I would pick Hilly, but not by much.
I said it in response to the a Flagpole article and I’ll say it here, Lanoue is a classless bum for not directly addressing the concerned parents and members of the CCSD staff. Sending a letter to be read while going off to receive your Superintendent of the Year Award was bush league. He should have arraigned things so he could be there.
On another yet related point, school administrations hide behind ‘policy’ far too often instead of giving real answers and addressing real concerns.
