Eight Resolutions to be Considered at GAGOP Convention
The Georgia Republican Party will consider eight resolutions at its Convention tomorrow, Saturday, June 5, when it convenes at 10:00 a.m. at Jekyll Island.
1. A resolution calling for stronger enforcement of immigration laws
2. A resolution urging the Georgia general assembly to rescind delta’s jet fuel tax credit
3. A resolution to safeguard students and their privacy and biological rights in Georgia public schools and universities
4. A resolution opposing social emotional learning (SEL) platforms and critical race theory and the 1619 project in Georgia public schools and universities
5. A resolution supporting “the defend the guard act”
6. A resolution to study removing the gag rule from Georgia republican primaries and calling for greater grassroots involvement in the primary process
7. A resolution calling for increased election integrity in Georgia
8. A resolution to censure Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger

It’s funny how history repeats itself. Today’s Republicans are yesterday’s Know-Nothing party.
“The Know Nothings were a nativist political party and movement in the United States in the mid-1850s. Despite using the “Native American Party” name, its membership consisted of the descendants of colonists or settlers and did not include indigenous Native Americans.
The Know Nothings were originally a secret society. It was primarily an anti-Catholic, Anti-Irish, anti-immigration, populist and xenophobic movement. It was progressive in its stances on “issues of labor rights, opposition to slavery, and the need for more government spending”[1] as well as for its “support for an expansion of the rights of women, regulation of industry, and support of measures designed to improve the status of working people.”[2] It was a forerunner to the temperance movement in the United States. The Know Nothing movement briefly emerged as a major political party in the form of the American Party. Supporters of the Know Nothing movement believed that an alleged “Romanist” conspiracy was being planned to subvert civil and religious liberty in the United States, and sought to politically organize native-born Protestants in what they described as a defense of their traditional religious and political values. The Know Nothing movement is remembered for this theme because of fears by Protestants that Catholic priests and bishops would control a large bloc of voters. In most places, the ideology and influence of the Know Nothing movement lasted only a year or two before disintegrating due to weak and inexperienced local leaders, a lack of publicly declared national leaders, and a deep split over the issue of slavery. In the South, the party did not emphasize anti-Catholicism as frequently as it did in the North and stressed a neutral position on slavery,[4] but it became the main alternative to the dominant Democratic Party.[3]”

In reading the accounts of the convention this morning all I could think is that the inmates are running the asylum and this is effectively the Cult of Trump. Booing the sitting Governor of their own party, reelecting a Chairman that just oversaw the loss of both US Senators, belief in a conspiracy that has been disproven over and again, a Chairman that also conspired to undermine the will of the people in the Electoral College… The misquote attributed to Einstein regarding the definition of insanity comes to mind.
How embarrassing.
