The GBI is looking into claims against Georgia Appeals Court judge Christian Coomer.
It may be recalled that Coomer’s primary qualification for the Appeals Court seems to have been his being instrumental in the enactment of legislation creating new Appeals Court seats. Governor Deal appointed Coomer to the Appeals Court two years later, the minimum to avoid criticism for it being a reward. It has the appearance of a reward since Comer had not been working full time as an attorney for many years during General Assembly service, and didn’t even have any bench experience.
The clains involve Coomer preparing a new will for a 76 year old man naming Coomer executor because the man was dissatisfied with the executor he had lined up for borrowing money and not paying it back. Coomer had borrowed $289,000 from the man with terms of a $159,000 loan being a balloon payment when the guy would be 106 years old. It’s not clear to me in the AJC column whether the loans happened before or after the will. Either way, in combination of loans and the will is shaky..
Then consider the will was changed (again, don’t know when relative to the loans) to name Coomer’s wife executor with the discretion to give “all or nearly all of the entire estate” to Coomer, indicating Coomer knew it shaky.

Republicans only appoint the best! Kemp is turning out to be worse than Trump and Deal in his personnel selections.
Corruption has certainly risen since the Republicans have taken over state government.
Shade and corruption are non-partisan though. A reason it’s more GOP is that government in Georgia is largely GOP. And a consideration with respect to rising corruption is rising Dem standards. Case in point metoo Biden. Trump is in a class of his own given vacancies, punishments and firings. It
