Some states are taking new approaches to addressing the high costs of prescription drugs.
Utah has started a program that sends state employees to Mexico to buy their prescriptions at a discount compared to US prices.
“The cost difference is so large that the state’s insurance program for public employees can pay for each patient’s flight, give them a $500-per-trip bonus and still save tens of thousands of dollars.”
Utah has expanded the program to include trips to Canada.
Other state initiatives: California is looking to launch its own generic-drug label. Louisiana has a Netflix-style program for hepatitis C drugs, where the state negotiated a deal to pay a flat fee rather than for each prescription.
Several states are looking at creating boards aimed at keeping prices affordable, and four have started what’s expected to be a lengthy process to begin importing drugs from Canada.

With respect to Puerto Ricans obtaining drivers licenses, chalk up Georgia again arguably systemically and adversely affected minority voting rights, given the connection between given the connection between obtaining a driver’s license and voter registration.
The striking down of Section 5 of the voting rights act because it was based on old facts had merit. In light of Sumter County school districts et al, I wonder what’s been the record since. I’d speculate many locations identified in Section 5 would head a list since 2013 of such.
I know, I know, it’s such a hoax and fake it doesn’t warrant investigation. Ask anyone in the GOP.
Not to worry about the deficit. Some will suddenly declare it a if not the leading priority in 2021 when Trump is out of office.
