Georgian Judge Stan Baker Confirmed to U.S. District Court

Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue issued a joint press release this afternoon applauding the confirmation of Judge R. Stan Baker to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Judge Baker is from St. Simons Island and has served as an U.S. magistrate judge for the Southern District of Georgia since Feb. 3, 2015. Judge Baker was nominated almost a year ago by President Donald Trump on Sept. 7, 2017.

Sen. Isakson:

“Judge Stan Baker is a great and talented Georgian who is well-qualified for this position. His work as a litigator and his service on the bench have provided him with a deep grasp of legal procedure, and his record of distinguished service to our state gives me confidence that he will continue to serve us well. At his Senate hearing, Judge Baker confirmed what people in South Georgia already knew: He will bring to this role the same open-mindedness and fairness in his decision-making on the bench that he has delivered throughout his career.”

Sen. Perdue:

“Judge Stan Baker has an exceptional legal background, and there is no doubt in my mind that he will continue to serve his state and country with integrity as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Georgia. Baker has served as an U.S. magistrate judge for the Southern District of Georgia since Feb. 3, 2015. Prior to his service on the bench, Baker was an attorney from 2009-2015 with The Jordan Firm, LLC, in St. Simons Island, and with Prior, Daniel, & Wiltshire, LLC, in Athens, Ga., from 2006 to 2009. Baker litigated a wide range of civil, commercial, and criminal matters in state and federal courts. Baker also clerked for Judge William T. Moore, Jr., on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Baker earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College in Davidson, N.C., and graduated from law school magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law.
