Former 10th Congressional Candidate Arrested on Murder Charges

On Wednesday, 30 year-old Kellie Lynn Collins was arrested by the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office for the murder of 41 year-old Curt Jason Cain, according to the Daily Mail.

Ms. Collins dropped out of the race for “personal reasons” and was not on the ballot.  Apparently, deputies found the body during a well-being check after Mr. Cain did not show up for work. Both his car and wife were missing, but she was located out of state. On August 4th Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton explained in a news release that Cain died from a gun shot wound. Mr. Cain was listed at Treasurer for Ms. Collins campaign.

According to the Augusta Chronicle, Ms. Collins was also charged with grand larceny.

Collins former campaign manager, Clayborn Thigpen, said,

“that Cain and Collins were living together in Aiken, but he hadn’t talked to them in five months. Thigpen said he was shocked about the murder and arrest because he knew them really well.”

Ms. Collins is still in jail. The investigation is still ongoing and the death has been ruled a homicide.
