Rep. Ferguson Introduces Act to Build Southern Wall
From a press release from Rep. Drew Ferguson’s (R, GA-3) office:
Congressman Drew Ferguson today introduced the American Border Act authorizing the construction of a wall along our southern border.
“Countries have borders. Human and drug traffickers as well as illegal immigrants are undeterred by theoretical lines and polite ‘do not enter.’ Americans will never trust an immigration plan until our borders are secure. That has to come first for reform to become a reality so I say we take the first step and build the wall.
American citizens—including legal immigrants—want and deserve a yea or nay vote on this; they deserve to know their representatives position so they can replace them if they stand cowering in a corner. This is necessary, it’s good policy and it’s the right thing to do to keep drugs and gangs from victimizing our citizens and illegal immigrants from taking advantage of our kindness and charity.”
The American Border Act would:
- Authorize construction of a border wall system.
- Advance technology to enhance border security.
- Secure Ports of Entry.
- Put more Customs and Border Patrol boots on the ground.
- Authorize use of the National Guard along the southern border to help construct physical barriers and provide aviation and intelligence support.
- Prohibit federal agencies from impeding Border Patrol access and activities to prevent unlawful entries.
- Strengthen penalties for those aiding and assisting illegal immigration.
- Provide advanced appropriations for the wall construction, deployment of technology and the completion of the entry/exit systems.

I’m getting to where I’ll believe anything anymore.
Hey we could use a wall at the Florida border. Keep those yankee tourist dollars in Georgia and keep out those pesky Florida drivers I always get behind in the N. GA mountains. Now if we can only make Florida pay for it…

I think he meant to say that Mexico WON’T pay for the wall.
It’s been clear for a while that Central American illegal immigrants cutting the grass is infinitely more a concern than Russians interfering with US democracy.
If only this kind of border protection bill could be combined with other measures to address other problematic areas of immigration, we could solve many problems with all the necessary votes.
Amnesty for Dreamers is a Democratic requirement and a GOP non-starter. It’s been that way for a decade, so anything is unlikely to happen, even considering Trump’s superlative White House deal-making experience.
Speaking of deals, when is the next batch of remains of 200 Americans from the Korean War due?
Oh, so I missed the news that Mexico had ponied up the cash to pay for it.
So, I guess he thinks border patrol shouldn’t have to be accountable for ripping small children from their parents. That would be federal interference to “impede border control access”. This is so blatant in its pandering as to be shameful that he thinks anyone (other than himself) is that stupid.
The US border with Mexico is already the 3rd most militarized border in the world…guess we need to aim higher.
Oh, and that wall on the Canadian border might get pricey.
