Tex Mclver Free on Bail
Two months after a judge set a $750,000 bond for Atlanta attorney and former member of the Georgia Board of Elections, Tex Mclver, the AJC is reporting that the accused raised the 10% needed to walk free until his trial.
Mclver is accused of murdering his wife, Dianne, in September of 2016. Mclver maintains it was an accidental discharge. According to Mclver, he was worried about the protests happening at the time. He dozed off and was startled awake, causing him to pull the trigger and ultimately kill his wife. The prosecution argues that it was premeditated and financially driven.
In a statement by a member of the defense team, Bruce Harvey says they are glad Mr. Mclver can enjoy a semblance of normal life for the holidays before trial.
“Freedom is the norm in our society for those who are presumptively innocent and accused of crimes.”
Mclver was released with an ankle monitor and must reside at his Buckhead condo with strict instructions on his coming and going until his trial.
This is the second time that Mclver has been released on bond after violating the Judge’s order of no firearms being in his possession. More specific terms were laid out by Judge Robert McBurney this time. Judge McBurney stated that the order of no firearms, loaded or unloaded, included the entirety of his home and “all sock drawers”, which is where investigators found the handgun that landed Mclver back in police custody in April.
The trial is set to begin on March 5, 2018.

Thanks for the update. I missed that the judge had allowed bond. I’m also surprised that it took McIver two months to raise $75K. Being charged with murder must have played hell with his liquidity. Or maybe his late wife’s name is on a lot of his property.
I think assets might have been frozen. Her estate made a bundle on liquidating her property. The jewelry sale alone had to have netted several thousands. But the estate is possibly in dispute with her family and his assets frozen. I remember there was a lawsuit action to stop him from selling her things.
