Sen. Perdue Supports President Trump’s Stance on Jerusalem (UPDATED with Congress Reactions)
Senator David Perdue (R-GA) shared some remarks on President Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the committment to move the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem:
“It’s long overdue we send a powerful message of support to one of our closest allies, Israel. I commend President Trump for taking continued steps to reaffirm the United States’ relationship with Israel after years of questionable policies from the Obama Administration. As a new U.S. Senator, I made my first international trip to Israel and personally met with Prime Minister Netanyahu. By recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the President is recognizing both an historic and modern reality, Jerusalem is the center for the Jewish people and all parts of Israeli government reside there today. President Trump has shown Israel is a priority, and we will continue to work together in support of our longtime friend and ally.”
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R, GA-11):
Rep. Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement in support of President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel:
“When I visit with members of the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, I go to Jerusalem. Both times I have met with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, we met in Jerusalem. And my meeting with President Reuven Rivlin, of Israel, was also in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the seat of the Israeli government; it is the location of their Parliament building and the offices of the Prime Minister and President.
“It is the diplomatic right of any sovereign nation to choose where their nation’s capital is located; and, for 67 years, Israel has recognized Jerusalem as their capital. It is beyond time for the United States to embrace reality and formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
“In 1995 Congress passed, by an overwhelming bi-partisan majority, an act to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move the United States Embassy to Jerusalem. I applaud President Trump for addressing this and formally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.”
Rep. Doug Collins (R, GA-9)
“I commend President Trump for officially recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, reaffirming both the United States’ deep bond with Israel and the importance of Jerusalem to Judaism. Under the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act, U.S. law states that our nation should locate its embassy in Jerusalem, but until now there has been no action to make that a reality. I have long supported such a move and believe it strengthens our relationship with Israel, while keeping the door open for continued negotiations toward a two-state solution.
“President Trump’s announcement brings our diplomatic policy toward Israel into alignment with our posture toward other sovereign nations around the world, which determine their own capitals. The president’s decision also affirms that Israel is the United States’ strongest ally, and he is right to act accordingly.”

Perdue is a moron. I’ve always thought so, and nothing has changed. Trump doing this is an attempt to change the topic. Perdue is a Trump loyalist, since he isnt capable of having his own thoughts.
BTW…how’s that federal debt crusade going since you voted to increase it by a trillion or so. He really needs to go when he comes up for election next time.
It must feel really horrible knowing your candidate couldn’t beat a moron.
No, actually much sadder/horrible that Georgians would elect one only because he had an R after his name
Yep, Sheldon Adelson = #1 individual contributor to Trump campaign + #1 supporter with enough clout to get weekly phone calls from Netanyahu. Both now united in keeping the pot stirred. Stewed dove anyone? Perdue seems determined to go down with President Trump.
As to the Congressmen it still mystifies how Israel somehow ranks higher in their support as an unofficial 51st state. Certainly more support than we have been willing to give our own Territories like Puerto Rico and Guam. I can only think the Red State reps think that this support fits the teevee preachers’ narrative that we are in the “latter days” and helps them cater to their ‘lectorate in that fine Pappy O’Daniel’s tradition.
Who needs the advice of the State Department and Tillerson and the National Security apparatus and H.R. McMaster when Trump is the Republican leader. He’s a very smart and knows things, and son-in-law Kushner who’s best and brightest on foreign policy is working on it.
