Board of Regents Wastes Resources on KSU Kneeling Investigation
At a time when there should be celebration of Kennesaw State’s first trip to the FCS football playoffs this weekend against Samford University, the focus has instead shifted to debate over cheerleaders not standing on the field during the national anthem. The Georgia Board of Regents (BOR) issued a report (posted at Insider Advantage) outlining the findings of an investigation into the non-scandal of who knew what and when about cheerleaders kneeling and/or staying in the locker room at football games. Think about it: The BOR actually utilized taxpayer resources to investigate this non-issue.
Take a few minutes and read through the head-scratching report at Insider Advantage. It is of my opinion that KSU President Sam Olens made the right determination that this is a first amendment right issue and that there is nothing that can be done about student expression that does not interfere with the rights of others. However, there are evidently people that think that Olens should lose his job because of this non-issue. If Olens loses his job or his contract is non-renewed over this, it will be a horrible decision.

I guess it’s similar to people burning the flag. We may not like it, but if we respect and honor freedom, we have to accept it. Or like the ACLU defending Nazi’s right to speak or publish. They may wish they didn’t have to, but someone has to if we are going to claim to be free.
This should already be settled and non-controversial. Not to say easy to swallow, but legally clear.
I often say to myself while watching the news “Just because you CAN do something doesn’t always mean you SHOULD do something.” Especially when it comes to fashion. But just because I don’t like it doesn’t make it illegal.
Not that I think this warrants Olens losing his job, Olens shouldn’t have been given the job in the first place. Being paid $400,000 a year to train for a job is quite a perk.
I’m fine with KSU prohibiting cheerleaders from taking a knee. Just as I would be in the prohibition of wearing a hijab. Taking a knee isn’t an issue when there’s no disrespect involved. Too many people claim to know what’s in other’s hearts.
Many objected to Olens appointment because it was “political” and he has nothing in his background to prepare him to lead a college. This seems to bear out the objection and the investigation was justified.
Is Earl Ehrhart still involved in the situation?
