On this date in 1886, John B. Gordon was sworn in as Governor of Georgia. Having served in the Civil War, Gordon was rumored to be a member of the KKK and was the First Commander of the United Confederate Veterans, but that didn’t stop him from ascending to the role of U.S. Senator.
