Congressman Doug Collins Discusses The Digital Divide In The US

Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-09) was on CBS This Morning earlier in the week to discuss the lack of access for rural areas and the legislation (Gigabit Opportunity Act) he has introduced to address it.  You can check out the video here:

“Rural Internet access” probably invokes the thought of the farmer who can’t get high-speed Internet access, but the reality is that it hurts growing communities even in the metro Atlanta area.  Dawsonville is a growing area as more people move into communities along the GA-400 corridor, but people are struggling to get speeds faster than 10 Mbps (the FCC definition of high-speed broadband is at least 25 Mbps) download speed.  Adequate available and reliable broadband Internet access will be crucial as more and more people move into these areas.
