Sen. Isakson Applauds Acosta Confirmation as Labor Secretary
In a vote of 60-38, Alexander Acosta was confirmed today as the Secretary of the United States Department of Labor. The following information is provided from a press release from Sen. Isakson’s office.
Sen. Isakson:
“American businesses and job creators are ready to grow. After years of a heavy-handed federal regulatory regime, America needs the new leadership Alexander Acosta will bring to the Department of Labor to help our economy thrive. I look forward to working with him to aid America’s 21st century workforce.”
Acosta previously served under President George W. Bush as a member of the National Labor Relations Board from Dec., 2002 to Aug., 2003. He became the first Hispanic American to become Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, a position he held from 2003 to 2005. From 2006 to 2009, Acosta served under President Bush as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida before becoming the dean of Florida International University College of Law.
