ppl’s susceptibility to fake news is fascinating and horrifying. my 2 cents it happens first bc we are foremost feeling beings before thinking beings. but then- ppl empower their emotions and belief beyond their empowerment of their minds. they want to believe, and don’t want to critically investigate. for some, having more time or energy to investigate could help, but for many, their desires and beliefs dictate their thoughts and critical thinking functions.

It plays into the narrative that the main stream media lies. They take secondary sources as fact because to investigate what did or did not happen means having to look at the original reporting of events by ‘the evil press’. Film and photos are done mainly by the press pool. Eye witness accounts are reported mainly by the main stream press. If you don’t believe the national press, your not going to believe what others say to them. The press is liberal in their view, even the known conservative owned press.

Several years ago, on the old site, we demonstrated how easy it was to manipulate Wikipedia. Now it is fake news. As long as people believe what they read in one place, anything is possible.

I’ve admonished a commenter or two on here before to consider their sources to no avail. The real tragedy is that it isn’t just gullible Trump supporters but the NYT article shows one of them that got the man himself to tweet about it, and that was far from the first time. Of course lefty conspiracy sites and the like are not unheard of either but the President-elect cannot be sourcing his news from unfounded “stories” even if they were helpful in getting the office. I thought it unseemly for a sitting President to show up on tv talk shows… Read more »

It sounded like Kellyann Conway told Chris Cuomo that (paraphrasing) “It’s only social media. Don’t pay attention to it.” Which is consistent with everything we’ve seen from him/them so far- his words don’t matter. Maybe he’ll learn that his words do matter. Or maybe people will stop paying attention to his words.

so i had to dig into this topic a little more. i focused on the story that HRC allegedly threw a couple of tantrums- one after the Matt Lauer/ Commander-in-Chief forum, and another after losing the election. as an aside, snopes.com appears to be in the media fact-checking space now…? but all the stories are typically based upon one uncorroborated witness’ story (which btw, would not stand as acceptable evidence even as far back as Biblical times). sometimes it is one quote from among “people”. sometimes one media source quotes two allegedly different people. but there is never any corroboration… Read more »

You do know that the markets traditional closes high at the end of November and the first half of December to make up for the traditional slump in October after the release of third quarter earnings, regardless of who is running the country, right?

Some one needs to keep you entertained.

My first choice was to reply “Japan hit with Earthquake days after PM meets future leader of the free world! Thank you Donald Trump!” I thought it might be too much until we know what’s going on there.

Sounds like something he could have conveyed through a press conference. Then again, that would require him not being scared of taking questions from someone other than Sean Hannity. Just to rebut some items: 1) Withdrawing from TPP – China has already started developing a multi-lateral trade framework in the Pacific that will fill the void created by the US’ retreat from TPP. The goal for TPP was to make sure that we set the terms and standards for trade in the Pacific, I’m sure American companies are thrilled that the Chinese will roll back intellectual property protections and make… Read more »
