The Times’ idea to keep polling the same group is pretty interesting but their results have consistently been out of step with other polls, as noted in the OP. Before anyone gets their partisan hackles up, I am not saying that being an outlier makes a poll wrong.

I clicked but I will read anything, including the back of the shampoo bottles if stranded on the throne without other reading materials. Seriously though an article that starts with the Skywalker-ish line; “Donald Trump is the only hope to save America…” might have its own wee bit of bias. Equivocation doesn’t justify fatal character flaws that were evident before this guy was ever nominated. The Christianity Today article linked by Davo says it best “The revelations of the past week of his vile and crude boasting about sexual conquest—indeed, sexual assault—might have been shocking, but they should have surprised no one.”

I’m assuming the “on this date” factoid and the UGA “ranking” story is just a coincidence.
Just pipe dreaming here but what would this trainwreck look like if Trump could somehow be brought to heel for an LBJ moment? “If elected I will not serve…” on an affidavit written in blood. Ballots could stay unchanged and a further promise that Pence would name Kasich in as his VP could sway Ohio, if not a few more moderates in other states.
At this point the presidency is lost and to a candidate that even many hardshell Democrats require a lot of mayo or mustard added to stomach their shinola sandwiches. Could this be pulled out of the fire at this late stage? Would it be legal since some votes have already been cast? If so and if necessary I am willing to bring the thumbscrews.
There are a lot of attorneys looking into it. I can’t remember where I read it, but an election law attorney (could have been Randy Evans) said that there are only two ways that Pence takes over. 1) Trump dies. 2) He willing steps down. Neither of those is going to happen. He cannot be forced off the ticket. Sadly, our only option is 2020.
