$15 minimum wage? My skin is burning.
I’ll bite. What’s a number that you would support and why?
A friend of mine owns a small business in Gwinnett county. He told me the other day that if the $15 minimum wage became law, he would have to shut it down. Minimum wage laws don’t promote equal opportunity, they try to promote equal outcomes.
What happens if one of his material costs increase by $7.50/unit? Is he unable to charge a different sales price to maintain existing margins? Can he hire less workers to keep labor costs the same?
Anecdotal evidence aside, your friend’s business doesn’t appear to be set up for the long run if an $7.50 cost of labor increase shuts it down.
Depends on the type of business. A service business relying on low-skilled employees might not survive if labor costs almost double.
If the cost of labor increases for everyone, and every firm maximizes productivity as best they can, your friend can pass on costs to customers and stay in business.
I would think service businesses would be the easiest to absorb a wage increase because they generally only compete locally. Manufacturers might have a harder time if they have to compete with a place that doesn’t have the same wages.
A lot of my service folks don’t care, they are flying under the radar at cash level and/or using illegals or 1099’s. Regulations and accountability are for the compliant only today.
How would this effect obamacare, Medicaid, unemployment, welfare subsidies and other wage related supports ?
Not as bad as its going to once you get brined by the film industry.
Vincent Fort sponsored a $15 minimum wage bill in the senate. If he runs for mayor will he push a $15 minimum wage for the city? The answer is no because it would result in fewer businesses and fewer jobs in the city.
Go to Drudge and see the pic of Hillary being helped up the stairs, the implication being that she’s in bad health. Now, you know I’m not a fan. But that aside, who took the pic? An agent? Local cop who led the motorcade to this location? Staff?? Who leaked it to Drudge? There’s a high probability the person who snapped it was ‘sposed to be a trusted enough to get that close. The campaign has to be going nuts.
There’s always a scrum of photographers around any high-profile pol. The Daily Mail credits Reuters for this one and includes other pix where she’s not obviously drunk or suffering a stroke. (Sorry, had to indulge my inner Drudge/Breitbart for a moment.)
I’m not sure which campaign you mean is going nuts but there are three months to go and millions to spend on both sides. This ain’t nothing.

Well, given the lap dog nature of the press who cover Hilly, the Reuters guy is getting his backside reamed right now!! Thanks for the cite. We all know what a pic or video will do to a pol. Paging Ford, Jerry Ford,
You’re welcome. One thing I didn’t mention, the story is from back in February.
Lol! Ahhh, don’t we love the smell of campaigns in the morning!?
Are you talking about the picture going up the stairs taken in South Carolina in mid February? The ones taken by a Getty pool reporter as she slipped on painted damp stairs,? Ever woman who ever wore 1/4″ – 3/8″ heel points (regardless of height) and had to walk up painted stairs in February and their heal skidded in the wrong direct, just did a huge eye roll.
Don’t do an eye roll. Drudge’s posting it is an attempt to make up an issue. Annnnnddd, contrary to my usual Hilly postings, I found the obvious smear attempt a bad thing!!
Too late… My inner ‘Are you kidding me” voice already escaped it’s cage for the day.
supposed to be elsewhere.
If this is what is passing for scandal, then Robby Mook has to be feeling pretty good right about now.
Smiling with the tax the rich minions thinking middle class taxes will go down and infrastructure will be built. When you can control and direct your income, the income tax rate is a non issue/give ’em something.
The best way to get at the rich, if you just have to, is similar to our property taxes. Tax assets over $10 million at 1% or so. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates wouldn’t need a team of cpas and attorneys to figure out 1% of $60 billion and $80 billion respectively.
Hillary still skates with her foundation. But the current tax the rich cries are a lie to bury those starting at $100k (rich is called $250k income by her).
It’s funny because Buffet’s income is maybe $100,000 so Hilly’s proposed 4% surcharge on income over five million would not apply to him. Evidently rich democrats take care of other rich dems.
You need to watch The Jerk. You don’t know sh@# from Shinola.
Buffet has a SALARY of 100K but he pays most of his taxes on investment income which I guarantee you is much, much larger than 100K.
I understand he pays more taxes than what he pays on $100000. In 2010 he paid approximately 7 mil which was 17% of reported income which is below the rate that many of us pay. The point is that taxing income is inefficient and inconsistent.
