Saw the WSB town hall last night and Mayor Reed clearly won the debate with the BLM extremist. Most of the rest of the program was made up of complaints on police officers, talk of mass incarceration, gun control and more school funding…same old stuff.
Maybe I should have watched the convention instead, but then again, maybe not.

The last Great American Achievement. Too bad for us.
Yes most of our great achievements these days are done in collaboration, which I guess doesn’t help us feel superior to everyone else and therefore it’s not rewarding enough.
What are some of the examples you are referring to in regard to the latest achievements?
Maybe I misunderstood your point. Are you saying there have been no great human achievements at all since 1969? Or that whatever great achievements humans have done have not included Americans?
No, my point was that Apollo was the last great American achievement and I was lamenting the fact that as a nation that was our high point. So many years ago. I was asking what other human achievements since then were in the same league. No snarking, either. The internet? High speed PCs? Iphones? I was drawing a blank.
And my point is- why must we judge our American achievements as superior to everyone else’s? This is the 21st century. The world is smaller now. We collaborate and achieve together, not try to dominate and subdue. Is it not enough that we can eradicate polio and Guinea worm? Land a spacecraft on a comet? Build the space station? Develop solar power? MRI’s? Yes, the internet. The Jaguar F Type? Why is American Exceptionalism so important? We are moving towards human exceptionalism. The sooner the better.

Saw you quoted in the last paragraph of an AJC column on the convention, Charlie. I’m sure more than passive opposition is much easier said than done especially in your circumstances. The largely passive resistance of the GOP majority to an inconsistent, ignorant charlatan touched with incoherence is running the national GOP into the ground.
The GOP on the whole didn’t much object to statements that Obama isn’t a real American initiated before he was elected and continuing to the day. Yesterday the GOP nominated an leader early on that meme, with a convention speaker calling Obama a Muslim.
Those focusing to such an extent on Clinton as a liar even when they don’t support Trump (not saying that’s you) are piddling away credibility. An interested person of below average intelligence can readily determine that Trump isn’t truthful almost daily, sometimes blatantly so—Sunday, Trump talking over Pence on 60 Minutes to say yet again he’s religious; yesterday, Trump saying he wanted the GOP convention to be in Cleveland in a televised interview. It’s truly pathetic.
I tried to point this out the other day, but Charlie chose to focus on the messenger and not the message.
The GOP has turned over the keys to the car to a bunch of pre-teen beer drinkers.
No one is doing more to divide this great nation than the Republican’s who are remaining silent as all of this is happening right before their eyes.

Playing off your analogy, the GOP left the keys in the car for an outsider like Trump to come along and steal it. They screamed as he drove off, they weren’t silent. But their screams fell on the deaf ears of many GOPers who were abandoned after helping these folks gain control of many states and congress. The swiped car has been traded up to a nice new ride that cannot be stopped at this late date so time to get used to it.
Trump is the GOP candidate for president, about time folks accepted this absolute fact.
Who leaves the keys in the car?
The stolen car may have been traded in, but the GOP establishment isn’t pressing charges. Indeed the GOP establishment is largely waving to Trump as he tools around town.
Because the Republicans have a pathological hatred for anyone named Clinton and won’t rest until they’ve given them all the death penalty and razed the Clinton Library.
After all, Benghazi is worth more investigatory time and money to Republicans than 9/11.
But I’m sure they’re more interested in our national safety than another attempt to pillory a Clinton.
If it weren’t the Clintons it would be someone else. It’s an attack attitude bred for many years- must have an enemy!
So last night the program was about jobs and the policies that Trump and Pence will enact to ‘get America working’.
What’s tonights theme?
Nevermind….it doesn’t matter. There are no policies for anything.
Wasn’t the Iran nuclear arms deal closed after mostly being negotiated on Kerry’s watch?
Clinton’s term as Secretary of State ended in 2013. ISIS occupation didn’t being until 2014.
It’s comparable to Paul Ryan blaming Obama for closure of the Janesville GM plant in the district Ryan represents, except that the announcement occurred in December 2008 before Obama took office. The GOP relies on appealing to angry dolts that can’t or won’t remember what happened yesterday.
Facts just don’t matter in the bubble.
Guys like Christie and Ryan making such statement being held out as reasonable Republicans are why the country will not be governable until the end of GOP in its current state.
