GOP: Hillary Clinton Should Be Punished

Earlier today, FBI Director James Comey effectively brought the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server to an end, announcing that the FBI would not recommend bringing charges against the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Last week, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced she would accept the FBI’s recommendation and not override it.

Georgia Republican Party Chairman John Padgett issued this response in a press release:

Hillary Clinton is the most crooked and corrupt politician in American politics. She broke the law, tried to cover it up, lied to the American people, and now deserves to be punished for her reckless and criminal behavior.

Unfortunately, our elected officials behave more like Chicago mobsters than public servants.  We need an outsider like Donald Trump who can restore accountability, integrity, and confidence in the federal government.  We need real leadership and real consequences for those who endanger our country for the sake of political expediency.

So far, no comments from the Georgia Democratic Party on their website.

    Disregarding John Padgett’s thoughtful press release (the FBI Director isn’t an “elected official”…Donald Trump and “integrity” in the same sentence…Chicago mobsters…), I’ve got some sage advice for the GOP if they’d REALLY like to punish Clinton. Nominate someone else in two weeks. Do it. Force the Democrats hand to do something regarding Clinton. Because leaving Trump atop the ticket will do nothing but brush this issue aside forever.

    If the GOP nominates “xyz sane candidate”, the Democrats will have one week to decide whether to stick with Hillary, or scramble for Biden (sorry, Bernie doesn’t count in this scenario). Either way, the Democrats are left w/ a wounded Clinton against a sane GOP candidate, or to rally around Biden and roll the dice for 3 months. Its the can’t lose play for the GOP in a seemingly lose-lose scenario regarding Trump.

    I think we’re being trolled, either by Jon or by Padgett. At any rate, we know all about the decades-old battle between the Clinton obsessives and the master criminal Clinton cartel, so how about something new? I know I’d enjoy an inside-ball look at the suit Padgett’s lawyers have filed against him for $340K they claim he owes them (so far) for defense in a racial discrimination suit. An examination of state goper finances would be fun too, if only to see if their party fundraising is tracking Trump’s low level, and what that means for the future viability of political parties everywhere.

    Reaction is rolling in from some Georgia politicians.

    Senator David Perdue, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations State Department and USAID Management Subcommittee:

    Secretary Clinton is not above the law and acted with a gross lack of judgment while handling sensitive and classified information. Director Comey and the FBI may not want to bring charges, but most Americans are baffled by the government’s egregious lack of accountability for Secretary Clinton’s negligence.

    This is exactly why Americans are so fed up with Washington. Any other federal government employee would have faced serious consequences. Instead, Hillary Clinton today boarded Air Force One and hit the campaign trail with the President of the United States.

    9th District Congressman Doug Collins:

    In the United States, no one is above the law. Unfortunately, the FBI’s announcement today that indicates that Secretary Clinton is receiving special treatment due to political pressures. Secretary Clinton’s actions were irresponsible and reckless and jeopardize our national security. If another government official did the same thing, they would be charged and thrown in jail. For the FBI to simply turn away from this matter shows how politicized this Administration has become – Secretary Clinton has become untouchable even to the highest levels of law enforcement. As Americans, we must hold our public officials to the highest standards, and they certainly must be held accountable for illegal activities and wrongdoing. No amount of sidestepping and political maneuvering should buy Secretary Clinton any more time. I call on FBI Director James Comey to reverse his decision, and for justice to be served. No one—even a former Secretary of State—should be allowed to get away with these dangerous and irresponsible actions.

      Yes, but the Republican party’s best chance at the presidency is an indictment of Trump.

      Didn’t the last couple of SOS do similar things with their emails? Are we also going to spend tax money hunting down Colin Powell, Eric Holder and Condi Rice?

        LTWill, No SOS has ever had multiple private email servers in their private residences. Yes they all purportedly had private email accounts, but not the ability to store emails privately as Hillary did. Then she destroyed the devices storing them so there would be no way to retrieve the emails even with the most advanced forensic tools. Her IT dude took the 5th during a recent deposition regarding these servers so we may never know what was actually on those devices.

          Private email servers in your basement probably wasn’t feasible prior to Clinton.
          Besides, you can thank the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy for creating the paranoid/privacy obsessed Clintons. Own it.

            Of course they were available to her predecessors. It could have been done with with any of the popular email systems dating back to the eighties. I’ve personally setup “executive only” servers firewalled from the company’s own servers with cc:mail and later Lotus Notes. Of course they were using the same logic Clinton was with the difference of flaunting civil law instead of national security. Paranoid or not there is a valid concern that the Clintons have always skirted laws with the expertise of highly skilled, if not ethical attorneys.

            Were the emails forwarded to her phone? We all know how secure Apple’s Cloud has been. Just ask Jennifer Lawrence.

            Look, I get it. There was absolutely no chance of an indictment of the presumed nominee of either political party 4 months prior to the election, no matter how much I would like to see one for Trump too. But let’s not pretend this is anything else but CYA to the max and national security be damned.
