Westmoreland Endorses Ferguson As Successor

This morning 3rd District Congressman Lynn Westmoreland endorsed former West Point Mayor Drew Ferguson to be his successor. Ferguson faces State Senator Mike Crane of Newnan in next month’s Republican primary runoff. In addition to the Congressman, Ferguson has garnered the support of every other primary challenger from May’s primary – as well as Mike Crane’s own Sheriff Mike Yeager.

Congressman Westmoreland will join Drew Ferguson for a campaign event/lunch at “the original” Sprayberry’s BBQ in Newnan at 1:30 today. Westmoreland said the following via press release:

“After twelve years of serving Georgia’s Third District, I know what it takes to be a real leader and public servant. After suffering under the Obama Administration for eight years and the threat of Hillary Clinton continuing his liberal legacy- we want less talk, and more action. We need someone that will roll up their sleeves and work hard with others to make our community a better place.

“Drew is a strong, conservative voice for hard-working Georgians and his experience proves that he knows what it takes to get things done. His many years as small business owner reflect his entrepreneurial spirit, and understanding that we need less government interference in our lives and businesses- not more. Drew knows that through building our local economy, creating stable jobs, and fostering economic opportunity that our community will perform at its best.

“Others have called the incentives for locating Kia Motors in Georgia as ‘corporate welfare’, but if you ask the approximately 15,000 employees of the plant, and the suppliers in Troup, Heard, Muscogee, Merriweather, and Harris counties – it was a saving grace to a struggling community. The restaurants, hardware stores, convenience stores and many other small businesses all welcomed the plant and are now thriving because of it. If you were to drive through West Point eight years ago and then drive through the town now- you wouldn’t recognize it. The changes reflect how a good leader, and a committed community and state can rebuild a city into a shining example of economic growth.

“I’m confident he will have the same tenacity in Washington that he has shown as West Point’s Mayor. The people of Georgia’s Third Congressional District will be in good hands with Drew in Congress and I strongly support his candidacy for United States Representative.”

The race to replace Westmoreland remains one with the largest Georgia implications within the GOP caucus that remains on the July ballot.
