Governor Deal Appoints Board Members

Governor Nathan Deal appointed nine individuals to various state boards on Friday, June 17th.

Four individuals were appointed to the Council on Aging: Maureen Kelly, Perry Kemp, Pharm.D, Tony Marshall and Ashton Windham.

A graduate from Georgia State University and the University of Georgia, Maureen Kelly is the president of the Thanks Mom & Dad Fund which exists to support programs and services for older adults. She served in years past as the president of the Georgia Gerontology Society and the Georgia Older Worker Network. She recently retired from her position as business and community liaison for the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Area Agency on Aging. She and her husband, Mike, have four children, eight grandchildren, and currently live in Lawrenceville.

Perry Kemp, Pharm.D, is presently a practice manager and physician services liaison for Community Primary Care of Georgia.  He graduated with a bachelor’s and a doctoral degree in pharmacy from Mercer University. Kemp belongs to the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, the Georgia Pharmacy Association, Georgia Medical Directors Association, the American Medical Directors Association and the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association. He resides in Acworth with his wife, Victoria, and their two children.

Tony Marshall has over 25 years of experience working in the health care field—including 16 years in association management. He is currently the president and CEO of the Georgia Health Care Association and was previously the Florida Health Care Association’s the senior director of reimbursement. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Marshal and his wife, Janet, reside in McDonough.

Ashton Windham is the chief financial officer of WindCorp Management Services. He also operates a private home care service. He is licensed as both an insurance agent and nursing home administrator. He has served on the board of the Georgia Health Care Association in the past. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Auburn University and an MBA from the University of Georgia. He resides in Macon with his wife, Laurie, and their child.

David Wren, D.C., Semba Brittian, and Cavanna Good, Ph.D., have been reappointed to various boards.

David Wren, D.C., was reappointed to the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He is currently president of the Chiropractic and Sports Injury Center and sits on the Albany Advocacy Resource Center’s board, as well as the Chiropractic Political Action Committee. Wren is a past president of the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He earned his doctorate from Life University. Wren and his wife, Vicki, have three children and one grandchild and live in Leesburg.

Semba Brittian has been reappointed to the Georgia Commission for Serivce and Volunteerism. She is the CEO of the Generating Resources, Aid and Scholarship Program and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where she served for more than 27 years. Brittian is a volunteer with Northside Hospital Network of Hope, the Greater Atlanta chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army, the American Cancer Society and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. She graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and earned a master’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Maryland. She and her two children reside in Fairburn.

Governor Deal reappointed Cavanna Good, Ph.D., to the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism. Good presently serves the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement as deputy director of Innovations and Academic Strategy. She has also served in past years as the state director of School Improvement for the Georgia Department of Education. Good earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Fisk University, a master’s degree in Education from Georgia State University, and a doctorate in Philosophy from Mercer University. She lives in Lithonia with her husband, Antoine.

Additionally, Deal appointed Chuck Efstration to the Criminal Justice Reform Council. Efstration is an attorney at the the Efstration Law Firm, PC and serves in the Georgia House of Representatives representing the 104th District. He is a member of the Appropriations, Defense & Veterans Affairs, Insurance, Juvenile Justice and Reapportionment committees. Efstration serves as the chairman of a subcommittee of the Juvenile Justice Committee and a vice chairman of an Appropriations subcommittee. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia and earned his law degree from Mercer University. He and his wife, Ashley, reside in Dacula, where he also the president of the Gwinnett Bar Association.

Jay Markwalter, director of sales for the Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau, has been appointed to the Georgia Tourism Foundation. He is also president of the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau has previously held the position of tourism director for the Dahlonega and Lawrenceville Convention and Visitors Bureaus. He previously served on the boards of the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel Association, the Georgia 400 Hospitality Highway Partnership and the Georgia Downtown Association. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. He also earned a Professional Certification from the Southeast Tourism Society. Markwalter is a graduate of Leadership Georgia and Leadership Lumpkin County and is a current member of Leadership Augusta. He and his wife, Summer, reside in Augusta and have two children.
