An Endorsement In A Campaign Against Cancer

…and now for a moment of personal privilege.

A friend of mine since childhood (yes, I had one once. It didn’t last long) is running for the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man of the Year. Stephen Beckwith has been in a ten week campaign to raise money to fight cancer. He and thirteen others will finish their campaign Saturday evening, with the ones raising the most money named Man and Woman of the year.

Some of the money raised goes to research to find cures. Other money remains local to help patients with insurance premiums and co-pays. In a recent year that amount hit $1.3 Million here in Georgia.

From Stephen’s website:

Every one of us has been touched by cancer. That is why its important to know that of the 39 new Cancer-fighting drugs approved by the FDA in the past 10 years, 19 of them were initially developed for blood cancers and many had funding from LLS. Of those 19, ALL of them show promise for treating other cancers and diseases including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers, Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and MS.

I am honored to have been nominated for a candidate for 2016 LLS Man of the Year. I was nominated by Scott Thomas, a close friend of mine and 2013 LLS Man of the Year. Scott’s life was saved several years ago by an experimental drug funded by LLS. Our goal is to save many more lives by continuing to fund research and patient/family support services. That is the goal of LLS and that is my goal.

So this one is pretty easy. Vote with your dollars and do some actual good in the process. Every vote counts. I’m in, and I would appreciate you throwing a few votes Stephen’s way today or tomorrow please.
